Expedition: To The Extremes of The Americas

Route of the Extremes of the AmericasAfter circumnavigating the world in their single-engine aircraft, affectionately called Romeo, Gérard and Margi are back on the skyways. The route they have chosen this time will take them round the three Americas. Their aim is to go to the Extremes of the Americas, to the four compass points of the continent.

South of Punta Arenas, at Cape Froward, the southernmost point of the Brunswick Peninsula on the Strait of Magellan, the cross Cruz de los mares has been erected in honour of Pope John Paul II.

EXTREME WEST

Cape Prince of Wales, Alaska (Lat. N 65.37' 44" Long. W 168.05' 09")

Wales, a small eskimo village, sits on Cape Prince of Wales, on the Bering Strait, a mere 85 kilometres away from the Chukchi Peninsula in Russia.

EXTREME NORTH

Boothia Peninsula, Canada (Lat. N 71.59' 00" Long. W 094.34' 20")

Taloyoak is an Inuit community, two hundred nautical miles above the Arctic Cirle, which enjoys the midnight sun in summer and total darkness in winter. The northernmost point lies on the Bellot Strait.
