Now that you have a good page ready for submission, it's time to build the Profile that will help you manage your search engine marketing campaign. You will enter a good deal of information here and all of it is important to a successful campaign.
Website Info
Click on the Populate button along the top to automatically gather much of the information you need. If you don't get anything back, check the URL you entered. There may be a typo.
Once the information has been gathered from your web page, select the nationality of focus for your website and a Unique User name and Password. The User name and Password are used for logins to some search engines (Snap. being one) and unique identifiers for other search engines.
Website Content
Next, AddWeb needs information about where your website fits into the search engine Categories.
First, What Type of website do you have? Commercial websites offer Products or Services, while Personal websites do not. MLM stands for Multi-Level Marketing and Adult designates a website that is not suitable for children.
Next, you will want to select a Main Category with a Sub Category. These will be used for most search engines. When you have found the appropriate category, select the Custom Categories Tab.
Custom Categories
Custom Categories are specifically associated with a single search engine. Currently Yahoo, Snap. and AOL/DMOZ. You should select each of them in turn and search through their Categories until you find the one that best fits your website.
Select the Top Level Category for each by clicking the circle next to it. Then double-click on the Sub-Categories to navigate through them.
The Back, Forward and Reset buttons will be quite useful in navigating through the Sub-Categories.
Website Owner
This section defines who owns the website this Profile is being created for. You will want to fill out this information as accurately as possible.
Note that there are two E-mail fields. The submission E-mail will be Submitted to the search engines and is likely to generate a good deal of Spam. The Reports E-mail will be the recipient of any Reports sent by AddWeb through E-mail.
Search Engines
Here you select the search engines that you will be submitting to for this Profile. The Tree View allows you to easily navigate the search engines and select individual engines or entire groups of them.
Once you have selected the search engines, you can select to view only the engines you selected. You may wish to save your list of selected engines for use with other Profiles. You can do so by clicking on the Save List button and giving the list a name.
To the right information about the currently highlighted search engine is available. Much of this information will apply to AddWeb's Rules checking.
Ranking Setup
Here you can select your default Ranking options for this Profile. The keywords are pulled in directly from your website Info by default. If you wish to change them, please do. Your Home Page URL is already here also. The Unique Text is pulled in from your Title and can be edited here if you like.
The Title of your website should be fairly unique as it identifies your website to the world through the search engines. A unique Title also allows you to locate your website on search engines by searching for unique text.
You can add as many URLs with Unique text as you like, but keep in mind that the more you add, the harder it will be for your computer to keep up. There is a large amount of data passing through and being processed during Ranking.
Select the Search Engines that are important to you to show up on. These Engines will be checked every time you do a Profile Ranking.
You will also want to identify a competitor to compare ranking results against. Select your competitor from the list you just entered. These comparative analyses can be very informative.
The Search Depth is the number of results you wish to check from each search engine. The deeper you go, the more tracking you can get from a long term Ranking campaign. However, the important, traffic generating listings will be in the top 50.
Auto-Reporting
Higher editions of AddWeb give you the ability to generate Reports based on your submissions and Rankings automatically.
First select what kind of report you want to create. Text reports will be read in Notepad or Wordpad. E-mail Reports use the Text Report formats and send them to the address selected in the Website Owner section. HTML Reports are designed to be viewed in a web browser and are formatted to be easy to read and navigate.
You will want to select the Style of the Report Also. AddWeb comes with the 'Default' style, but you can create your own or download additional Styles from the AddWeb website. We welcome new Styles!
Select the exact Report you want to automatically create when your submissions or Rankings are completed.
You will want to select the Directories to output here and you may change the E-mail address here. You can modify the Reports further for customization here also.
If you are sending E-mail Reports, you can add a custom message to the beginning of these Reports.
FTP Settings
In this section, you can tell AddWeb where to upload web pages for this website. Enter the FTP Server and Login information plus the folder where your web pages exist on your hard drive.
This is not a required section. You may leave all of these settings blank without concern.
If you do not know the FTP information, contact your web Host. FrontPage support, if needed, is already included. Open FrontPage and look for the AddWeb menu along the top in the Menu Bar.
If you are using a Proxy Server to gain access to the Internet, you should consult with your Network Administrator regarding any possible special Proxy settings for FTP.
