Testing the modemIf the modem appears to be dialing, and the phone line appears to be fine, you can test the modem connection using a terminal program.
This section assumes you have 'Hyperterminal' (
Start Hyperterminal, and type in 'test' for a name of the connection, then click on 'OK'.
Type in area code as 0845, and phone number as 0798200, and make sure your modem is selected.
Click on dial, the modem should dial us up and you should be presented with a screen similar to the one below.
If this works then your modem, and phone line appear to be functioning properly. However if this does not appear, then the there is a modem problem preventing successful communication. Please consult your suppliers regarding possible solution.
