Verifying your modem is working

To get the control panel, click on the 'Start' () button, then click on 'settings', this will bring up your 'control panels'.
Double click on the 'modems' icon (). This should bring up the following panel.

You should see a listing of modem(s) installed on your machine.

If there are no modems installed, you need to consult your modem manuals on how to install the relevant drivers for your modem.

Click on the 'Diagnostics' tab, and highlight the COM port which your modem is attatched to.

Then click on to query the modem.

The modem should return a box listing information about itself.

If the modem returns an error, i.e. 'Modem port already open' or doesn't return a information screen then you should consult your modem suppliers on installing the modem properly.

You will need to cancel this setup, before testing your modem. You can continue the signup process late by clicking on the 'Internet Explorer' () on your desktop at at any time.
