Page Builder Overview

With Page Builder, you can create or modify your web pages for maximum visibility in the search engines. Compare the page you build in the Page Advisor as the information you enter may need some adjusting.

General Information
To build a web page that looks good to the search engines, you should first 'Populate' this form from your existing web page. This will let you see some of the information on your current web page. Anything that the Populate doesn't pull in you should enter yourself. You may also populate from profiles, allowing you to create doorways based on the work you have done in AddWeb.

You should try to create an information based page that has a focus on the keywords and Phrases that are important to you.

The only 'visible' information in this section is the Title, Header and the Body. Both of these will contain information that is visible in web Browsers. The rest of the fields here contain information that is seldom seen by anyone but the Webmaster and the search engine Spiders/Robots.

Image Alt Text

Alt Text is the pop-up text you find on many web pages when you hover over an image. This can be very important for focusing keywords on some search engines.

Your Images and any associated ALT Text will be populated from an existing page if they exist. Fill in the ALT Text fields with relevant content that also focuses on your keywords.

Links

Links, or Hyperlinks, are how you travel from one web page to another. You should always accompany your Links with Link Text.

One reason for this is to allow people to read where they are going without having to figure out what the URL means. This is very helpful in directing customers through your website.

Another reason is the search engines. They will want to read information in order to index you properly and they want a Link to follow.

Enter a URL into the top field and text that matches the Link in the next field. You can add as many links as you like in this way. These links will be inserted into Doorway pages.

Generate a new Doorway page

Doorway pages are designed to allow people with Home pages that for one reason or another will not list well. Typically Frames pages are the reason, but there are other pages that will not list well. If this is the case, and you cannot change the Home Page, a Doorway page is what you need.

Decide where you want to create the page on your hard drive and what you want it to look like. You should also decide what engine you want to build the page for. Different engines will take some pages better than others.

Change an existing page

If you want to modify an existing web page, locate it on your hard drive and select the tags you wish to add or modify. AddWeb will only insert informational tags into existing web pages. You can see them listed here with the Check Boxes.

AddWeb will create a back up of any web pages you modify here. If you need to restore to the previous page, go to the directory it's in and look for the .bak file. Remove the .bak from the end of the file name and you will have your original page again.

The Build button will create or modify the web page

Review Pages

Here you can review your new or modified pages. The top section lists any pages you created and where they are on your hard drive. You will want to upload these pages to your web server later, so don't forget where they are.

The SAVE button on this page allows you to RE-save the page if you make changes in the edit window. The page is already saved to your hard drive if you are viewing this section.

Below, you can see the HTML source of the page you just created. Click on the View in browser button to open it in your default web browser.

You should analyze the page in the Page Advisor to see how it should perform in selected search engines. Click on the Analyze button to do that now.

AddWeb can only create pages based on the information you give it. If the page does not score highly in the Page Advisor, you should bring it back to the builder and follow its advice.
