Configuring a Tablet for a Tablet Overlay

To configure your digitizing tablet for use with the plastic tablet overlay included with AutoCAD LT, it is recommended that you select the default tablet menus, columns, and rows that are provided. The following figure illustrates the default menu areas you specify to configure your digitizing tablet.

Specifying Fixed and Floating Screen-Pointing Areas

AutoCAD LT uses the concept of screen-pointing areas for digitizing tablets. A screen-pointing area is a rectangular region on the tablet surface within which the tablet pointer is used instead of a system mouse. The screen-pointing area corresponds to the computer display absolutely. For example, when the tablet pointer is in the center of the screen-pointing area, the graphics cursor is in the center of the graphics screen.

When the tablet pointer is within a screen-pointing area, it can access windows, menus, and other applications outside AutoCAD LT's drawing area as well as within AutoCAD LT. After you configure the tablet menus, you specify fixed and floating screen-pointing areas on your tablet, along with the option to use one of the tablet pointer buttons to switch between the fixed and floating screen-pointing areas. A maximum of two screen-pointing areas can be configured for a digitizing tablet: one fixed and one floating. The tablet configuration information is stored in aclt.cfg.

Note: Make sure the fixed, not the floating, screen-pointing area is active before you reconfigure the tablet.

Changing the Size of the Fixed Screen-Pointing Area

Before you configure your digitizing tablet, the entire surface of the tablet is actually the fixed screen-pointing area, and the tablet pointer operates in place of a mouse. You can change the size of the fixed screen-pointing area with the CFG option of TABLET. The best method is to specify a small screen area on your tablet similar to the one in the tablet overlay.

Using a Floating Screen-Pointing Area

You can use the floating screen-pointing area to expand the size of the pointing area on the tablet for creating and selecting objects and for choosing toolbars and menus. However, the floating screen-pointing area cannot be calibrated for tracing and does not support tablet menu access.

Switching Between the Fixed and Floating Screen-Pointing Areas

You can switch between the fixed and floating screen-pointing areas by using F12 or by using the tablet pointer button that you designate during tablet configuration. Some Wintab drivers allow access to tablet pointer button commands only if the cursor is outside the screen-pointing area. If you notice that the buttons on your tablet pointer are not responding appropriately, move the tablet pointer anywhere outside the fixed screen-pointing area before you press the tablet pointer button.
