Hewlett-Packard HP-GL/2 Devices

AutoCAD LT supports the LaserJet III and IV printers and the DesignJet and 7600 Series plotters through either a parallel or a serial connection. AutoCAD LT supports the DraftMaster and DraftMaster Plus series plotters through a serial I/O port only. The 7600 Series plotter, DesignJets, DraftPro Plus, and the DraftMaster with roll feed can do long-axis plots.

Note: As a Windows system printer, the LaserJet 4 is capable of 600 dpi; as an HPGL-2 device, the printer is dependent on the program's software.

Cabling

For a serial connection, use the following cable diagram:

Switch Settings

The following table displays the DIP switch settings for the 7600 240D plotter.

Switch bank10
Parallel Left21, 310
Parallel Right31, 2, 410
Serial Left1210
Serial Right3, 6, 7, 91, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10

The following table displays the DIP switch settings for the 7600 240E plotter.

Parallel Right 110
Serial Left1210
Serial Right6, 7, 915, 8, 10

For the DraftMaster and 7600 series plotters, follow the Hewlett-Packard instructions for turning off the monitor mode or turning on the remote mode, stand-alone mode, XON/XOFF handshake, direct mode, full duplex, 7-bit data, and parity setting. Choose settings for zero parity and 9600 baud. Be sure the plotter is in HP-GL/2 emulation mode.

DesignJet Plotters

AutoCAD LT supports the Hewlett-Packard DesignJet plotter models 200/220, 250C, 330, 600, 650C, 700, 750C, 750C Plus, 755, and 755CM plotters through a serial or a parallel port. It is recommended that you use the parallel port. If you use a serial port, set the DesignJet at 9600 baud, with 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, and hardware handshaking XON/XOFF.

Use HPCONFIG on the command line to review or reconfigure the DesignJet for the Rotate, Mirror, Merge, or Pen Settings option.

All DesignJet roll-feed models can produce long-axis plots. Both the 600 and 650C have an optional expanded mode for page formats and margins. Expanded mode is set on the plotter's front panel. By choosing Advanced Media Options from the Plotter Configuration menu, you can select options that match your plotter's settings.

In the HP Configuration dialog box, a status line displays the current model number and the description that you entered during configuration. If you are using more than one HP-GL/2 device, you can identify each model by providing a unique description during configuration.

Custom Configuration

To customize your configuration, enter hpconfig at the Command prompt. In the Plotter Configuration dialog box, you can customize your plotter by using the options that are provided.

The following table displays each plotter configuartion option and its function, along with further configuration selections you can make in related dialog boxes.

Option Description
Number of
Copies
Specifies number of copies from each AutoCAD LT PLOT command
Print
Quality
Selects quality level
Print ColorsDetermines the way the plotter interprets the colors in the drawing and prints them as colors, shades of gray, or black
Pens...Provides the Pens dialog box to define Plot Merge Control, Line End, Line Join, Fill, and Raster Patterns; pen assignments are determined by the pen numbers
Annotations...Provides the Annotations dialog box to define Drawing File Name, Plot Date/Time, Driver Name, and Crop Marks; use Crop Marks to determine cutoffs when defining roll feed
Media Options...Provides the Media Options dialog box to define image and media direction and placement (landscape or portrait)
Advanced Media Options...Provides the Advanced Media Options dialog box to define plot margins and avoid clipped plots; the driver has the Plotted Margins Expanded set off by default

Advanced Media Options

When you choose Advanced Media Options, a dialog box is displayed that provides scaled-to-fit and clip-limit adjustments. Clip limits define the available plotting area for AutoCAD LT. You can choose whether to display the clip-limit warnings when plotting. If the warning is on, you have the option of adjusting to fit in a real area, as opposed to AutoCAD LT's designated area. If you select the option to adjust to fit, be sure the Plotter Margin settings match the settings on your plotter.

Long-Axis Plots

The 7600 series plotter, DesignJets, DraftPro Plus, and the DraftMaster with roll feed can do long-axis plots.
