Creating Polygonal Objects

In AutoCAD LT, polygons are closed polylines with between 3 and 1,024 equal-length sides. Because regular polygons have equal-length sides, drawing a polygon is a simple way to draw squares, equilateral triangles, octagons, and so on.

The illustrations below show polygons using two different methods. The method on the left uses the center of the polygon and the radius length specified with the pointing device. In the method on the right, the length of one edge determines the size of the polygon.

There are many ways to create polygons:

• Specifying the radius when you know the distance between the center of the polygon and the midpoint of each side.
• Specifying the length of an edge and where you want to place it.
• Circumscribing a circle that you create first. By specifying the center of the polygon as the center of the circle, you can create a polygon that circumscribes the circle. The circle can later help you find the center point of the polygon, if needed. When the drawing is complete, you can erase the circle or place it on a turned-off or frozen layer.
