Q Why is the time for building protected CD longer?

A: You must build protected CDs with intelligent extraction to guarantee the usability of the VCD. Using normal method for these types of CDs in most cases will cause the VCD to be unusable. Due to the difference in the method of reading the CD, Intelligent extraction will usually take longer than Normal Method.  Also, when reading data from a protected area on the CD, GameDrive will be slower due to the encryptions on the CD (e.g. laserlock, safedisk, securom).

Q: Does the building time vary depending on the quality of the physical CD-ROM drive?

A: Yes, the reading speed of CD-ROM drives will be depending on the quality and the make of the CD-ROM.

Q: GameDrive auto-play the contents of VCD at system start-up. How can I stop the auto-play?

A: Uncheck Enable CD auto-run from ViewàSettingsàMiscellaneous settings in GameDrive menu.

Q: Can GameDrive automatically eject all inserted VCDs from Virtual CD-ROM(s) after the computer restarted?

A: Yes, uncheck Keep VCDs in drive when system boots from ViewàSettingsà Miscellaneous settings in GameDrive menu.

Q: Why does the game application still ask me to insert the CD when the VCD is already inserted?

A: You may solve this problem by trying either of the following methods:

1. Change the virtual drive to be the first CD-ROM drive letter.

    2. Build this CD by using intelligent extraction.

    3. Install the game from the VCD

Q: Why does the system (Win98/Me) always prompt that ‘Please insert a disk into drive….’ after I insert a VCD (built from Mixed-Mode CD) into a virtual CD-ROM drive?

A: The problem may be caused by a conflict between GameDrive and Ahead Nero v.5.5.6.4. Please uninstalling Nero from your computer and try again.

Q: Why the maximum number of virtual CD-ROM drive is 23?

A: There are 26 letters in alphabet. We suppose that A: and B: are floppy drives of your computer.  C: is usually the system drive, and there are 23 letters left (D-Z) in the alphabet.  So at most there are 23 virtual CD-ROM drives.

Q: Can I backup the settings of GameDrive?

A: Yes, you need to backup the following files located at

C:\Program Files\FarStone\GameDrive\Data. (By default)

File

Remarks

mgr.dat

VCD information

mgr.hky

VCD hotkey settings

Note: GameDrive installation program will not replace these two files.

Q: Does GameDrive support protected game CD?

A: Yes, GameDrive supports various protected game CDs, such as: Mixed-Mode protected, Safedisk1, Safiedisk2, Securom, Laserlock, …etc.

Q: Why can’t I hear the background music while playing game?

A: The background music of some mixed-mode CD is available only if the CD is inserted in the first CD-ROM on the system.

Q: Some games require more than one CD for playing. How can I replace CD without interrupting the game?

A: GameDrive enables users to use the hot-key to insert a CD. By using the hot-key feature, you can insert the CD into the designated drive without interrupting the game.

Q: What types of CD need to be built by using ‘Intelligent Extraction’?

A: Most of the protected CDs, such as Securom, need to use intelligent extraction.

Q: After I set the number and the drive letter for virtual CD-ROM drives on Windows2000/XP, GameDrive treats the newly added Virtual CD-ROM as a physical CD-ROM drive. How can I fix this?

A: There are two ways to solve this problem:

(1)    Restart your computer or

(2)    Refresh you Device Manager
