Purpose of the software

Powertweak is an hardware optimizer, this means that it will configure your hardware in order to make your system use its potential. It does what your drivers, operating system, or BIOS doesn't do, because most of the time, you don't have the very latest drivers & bios, and your operating system does not optimize the processors.

Making such a software is quite an ambitious project. There is a widening variety of processors, chipsets, display adapters, which all need a particular attention. An Intel Pentium II is not configured in the same way as and AMD K6 at all for instance, they both have a dedicated property page, with different options. Same goes for the chipsets.

Why use Powertweak, what are the risks

Supposing your system supports the optimization provided by Powertweak, its speed will probably be improved as well.

Of course, hardware optimization is not risk-free, but the only problem you may have is a system lock-up upon selecting an incorrect configuration. In any case, close all your applications before using Powertweak, at least for the few first times, to test if it works.
