Comparison of waste collection fees in Vienna and four German cities

An international comparison of the charge for waste management services in major German cities – Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, and Munich – renders a clear result: collection fees in Vienna are far lower than the comparable charges in German cities. To compare waste collection fees in the individual cities, data were based on a 240-liter waste container which is emptied 52 times a year and a transport route of 15 meters with not more than one step to overcome

Recyclables collection

All cities evaluated in the comparative overview have separate collection programs for recyclables, offering a range of systems that vary in user convenience. The collection service for paper, metals, plastics, and glass is included in the waste charges.

Household hazardous waste collection
This service is generally covered by the waste charges.

Maintenance and cleaning of containers

In Vienna and West Berlin, the cleaning of containers is included in the waste charge. Containers are cleaned at five-year intervals in Vienna, whereas in the other cities responsibility for container cleaning lies with the property owner.

    VAR  a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, k, l, m  : INTEGER;

In Vienna, the waste collection systems for residual waste, recyclables, and household hazardous waste offer maximum convenience to residents and companies alike. Berlin, Frankfurt, and Hamburg have a better bulky waste collection service, which is based on a pick-up scheme with no additional charge.
