A New Open Forum on Distant Learning for Remote Communities
We are pleased to announce our first Open Forum. The Open Forum on Distant Learning for Remote Communities is a discussion and co-operative space established on the World Wide Web by Tria M Europe BV in order to stimulate discussion and interaction. This forum is dedicated to those who wish to participate in increasing the opportunity of others to learn, especially in remote or rural communities.
The forum is open to those who wish to be informed and to contribute to the development of comprehensive services, particularly on an international basis. Interest groups, working groups, organisations and persons directly or indirectly involved in the subject are welcome to join the forum. This Open Forum aspires to be the best way to help participants to optimize their effort and resources.
The forum is a meeting point, a central distribution point where information can both be made accessible and distributed to other interested parties. Although the emphasis will lie on providing education and employment opportunities for remote and rural areas, the Open forum on Distant Learning will not be limited to just this subject. Also, fringe issues surrounding this topic will be discussed.
Our main objectives are:
To provide access to educational resources by remote communities.
To create economic opportunities for remote communities.
To initiate, co-ordinate and implement projects that lead to the optimization of existing courseware, as well as the development of new courseware, resources and services.
To maintain an Open Forum for developers and users of courseware.
To provide on-line technical support for developers and users participating within the framework of our objectives.
To establish an international network of multimedia resource centres.
To participate and co-operate with other institutions, groups and individuals involved in distant learning projects.
We would like to invite all those who believe that the benefits of the information revolution should be extended to include all citizens in the global community, in particular to those who do not live near centres of commerce, industry of learning, to join us in the establishment and maintenance of a "global classroom" network.
On-going discussions are highly appreciated, provoking ideas are savored and original suggestions are relished.
Please accept this open letter as an invitation to visit the forum and participate in the discussion.
