Step-by-Step Procedures

*** Four easy steps to get you up and running with WinRamTurbo ***

1. Setting the memory to free and trigger level for proper ram optimization
2. Setting the checkbox options
3. Other settings for the Professional version
4. Setting the windows file and disk cache

NOTE: Some of the procedures below may not apply to the freeware version. Also there are some slight differences between the Lite and Pro versions.

1. Setting the memory to free and trigger level for proper ram optimization:

(Freeware, Lite, Pro)
Memory to Free control - Depending on the amount of memory installed, usually this setting should be at half your total installed ram to 1/4 of the total memory installed. This setting depends on various things such as other applications you may already have loaded.

(Freeware, Lite, Pro)
Trigger Level control - This setting controls when memory is automatically optimized and occurs when the available memory in windows falls below this amount. 1 - 2 Meg or 1/16 of your total ram is a good start for most people. You can set this higher if you have more memory in your system for windows. Usually you wouldn't set this value more than 1/8 of your total ram.

2. Setting the checkbox options:

(Lite, Pro)
Start with Windows checkbox - This setting allows WinRamTurbo to be launched when windows startsup. If it is not checked, WinRamTurbo will not automatically start.

(Lite, Pro)
Start Minimized checkbox - If checked, WinRamTurbo will start minimized either to the system tray or to the windows taskbar.

(Lite, Pro)
Minimize to Tray checkbox - If checked, WinRamTurbo will go to the system tray when minimized by clicking on the window minimize button in the titlebar. Otherwise it will be minimized to the taskbar only.

(Lite)
Hard Flush checkbox - If checked, WinRamTurbo will satisfy the Memory to Free setting when optimization occurs and may also free more memory.

(Lite, Pro)
Show Uptime in Title bar checkbox - This controls displaying the windows elapsed time since bootup in the titlebar if checked. Otherwise the free memory statistics are shown in the titlebar.

(Lite, Pro)
Splash on Optimize checkbox - If checked, a splash screen will popup when WinRamTurbo optimizes memory, otherwise no splash screen is shown.

(Lite)
Shrink to Title bar checkbox - If checked, WinRamTurbo main window will shrink to a application titlebar when put in compact mode otherwise the main screen will shrink to show only memory statistics, resources free, and cpu load.

(Lite, Pro)
Show Free Resources checkbox - If checked, WinRamTurbo will display windows internal free system resource information.

(Lite)
Don't Optimize when > xx % of CPU Load spin edit - This controls memory optimization depending on CPU load. If the CPU load is above this setting, WinRamTurbo will not automatically optimize ram until the load falls below this value.

(Lite, Pro)
Optimize HotKey - This is a global hotkey that allows you to trigger the manual memory optimization of ram from anywhere in windows. To assign a hotkey, click the mouse within the hotkey control then hold down the desired key combination you want to use for the hotkey. Once you have selected the key combination, make sure to apply the changes from the file menu or toolbar.

(Lite, Pro)
Optimize every x min. spin edit - This controls when memory is optimized after the set amount of minutes have elapsed. This will occur regardless of the trigger level setting. If this setting is zero, this feature is then disabled. The range is 0 - 60 minutes.

(Pro)
Stay on Top - If checked, the WinRamTurbo main window will remain ontop of other windows on the desktop, otherwise it will behave like a normal window.

(Pro)
Disable Auto Optimization - If checked, WinRamTurbo will not automatically optimize ram and one could use this for monitoring purposes only.

(Lite, Pro)
Show Tips at Startup - If checked, the Tip of the Day dialog is shown when WinRamTurbo starts.

(Lite, Pro)
Disable Sounds - If checked, all sound alerts are disabled.

(Pro)
Disable Startup Splash Screen - If checked, no splash screen will be shown when WinRamTurbo starts.

3. Other settings for the Professional version:

(Pro)
Exit groupbox - This controls how WinRamTurbo will terminate and allows shutting down windows. Just Quit will exit WinRamTurbo and do nothing further. Log Off will quit WinRamTurbo and log off the current user in windows. Power Off will quit WinRamTurbo and power down the system if supported. Reboot will quit WinRamTurbo and reboot the computer. System Shutdown quits WinRamTurbo and does a system shutdown after windows exits.

(Pro)
Priority checkbox - Controls the windows priority schedule for WinRamTurbo. Real time is the highest setting and will give WinRamTurbo the priority over other applications running in the background.

(Pro)
Exit HotKey - This is a global hotkey that allows you to shutdown WinRamTurbo and windows depending on the Exit groupbox setting.

(Pro)
Tune button - Clicking this button will popup the tune ram settings dialog. It will automatically adjust your memory to free and trigger level settings for you.

(Pro)
Speaker button - This button is located at the bottom of the main window and toggles the sound alerts for WinRamTurbo.

(Pro)
Thumb Tack button - Toggles the stay on top setting of WinRamTurbo where it will stay above other windows on the desktop.

4. Setting the windows file and disk cache:

(Lite, Pro)
System Profile combobox - Under cache settings from the file menu select WinRam Turbo from this combobox under File Cache. Then under Disk Cache, select the Cache Scheme that best fits your setup. You may also click the Set Optimum Disk Cache button after the System Profile has been selected for WinRam Turbo. Next click the Save button to save any changes. WinRamTurbo cache dialog gives you total control over windows file and disk cache.
