Opening and Saving Images
Opening Images
To open an image for viewing in 20/20, select "File|Open" from the menu, or
click the Open tool button .
20/20 will then present you with the File Open Dialog:
Figure 1.
Within the open file dialog, you can either type in a file name to open, or click on one of the files listed. If you click on a file, 20/20 will display a preview of the selected file along with it's associated information on the right side of the dialog. The file information includes:
Type. Type of file
Width. Image width in pixels
Height. Image height in pixels
Size. File size in bytes
Colors. Number colors the image is capable of containing
Bits. Image resolution
Above the preview box is a field labeled "Stretch To Fit". If the field is checked the image preview is stretched to fit the preview box. If unchecked, the preview is displayed full size. If this is the case, you can pan the image by "grabbing" it with the mouse and moving it.
Once the image to be viewed has been selected, click on the "Open" button to have the image loaded into 20/20.
If 20/20 is in split screen mode, the image will be loaded into the active pane.
Saving Images
There two options available for saving images: "File|Save" and "File|Save As". If the
image has a name associated with it (displayed in the 20/20 title bar), choosing
"File|Save" will save the current image to the file name displayed in the title
bar. If the image is un-named, "File|Save" will cause the "Save
As" dialog to appear. The "Save As" dialog is identical to the
"Open Dialog" without the preview area. At this point you will need to
type in a file name and specify the format that you want to save the image (Files of
Type).
In order to save a named image to file with another name, choose "File|Save As", and type in the new file name.
If you make changes to an image and you attempt to replace that image with a new image, or close 20/20, you will be asked if you would like to save your changes.
