Tips for Preventing Errors

The following tips might help you prevent problems while scripting.

• Provide closing HTML tags, even if you think the browser will process the tag without its closing tag. For example, you might think that the browser will close an <OPTION> tag automatically, even if you do not include the </OPTION> tag. However, many browsers will not.
  
  
• Be aware that the values returned by some functions and properties vary depending on the situation or context. For example, the ADO record set object supports a property called RecordCount, which is documented as returning the number of records affected by a statement. However, the value returned in this property depends on the database. Microsoft SQL Server does not return a useful value in this property, so you should not rely on it in your script. Instead, you should check RecordSet.EOF, using code such as the following:
