C39Tools

Create barcode symbols

C39ToolsÖ is a collection of TrueType and Type 1 fonts that create Code 39 (a.k.a. Code 3 of 9) barcode symbols within any Microsoft Windows application. The various Code 39 fonts in C39Tools are used to create barcode symbols of different sizes and densities. Most of the fonts use a 2.5:1 wide:narrow bar ratio. The Slim fonts use a 2:1 ratio for narrower symbols and the Wide font uses a 3:1 ratio for wider symbols.

Like any TrueType or Type 1 font, the barcode fonts can be scaled to any size. Any of the fonts formatted at 24 or 36 points, will create barcodes that are 1/3 or 1/2 inches tall respectively. The important thing is to print samples of your desired string in a number of the Azalea fonts and check that it can be scanned when printed on your particular printer. Because the various fonts have different wide bar to narrow bar ratios, and overall height to width ratios, the same string formatted in different fonts will be different widths. Simply try different fonts to decide which one works best for your specific situation.

The enclosed OCR-B-Digits font is used for the optional human-readable characters under the barcode itself. Using a separate font to make the human-readable characters allows you to place and size the text independently from the barcode itself. You can also format the human-readables using spaces to separate characters. Note that the asterisk used for the start and stop bar is usually not included in the human-readable string.
