Preferences


Click on the Menu item TOOLS, then PREFERENCES to open up the Preferences dialog.

 Or simply click on the PREFERENCES button

General Preferences

Application Startup - Specifies the startup mode of the Editor. You can configure the editor to startup with No Open Document (Default), Open New Document, or Open Last Open Document.

Save Toolbar and Menu Configuration on exit - If checked, the editor will save the toolbar and menu configuration when the Editor is closed.

Show background image logo - If checked, the background logo will be displayed in the editor when no documents are open.

Auto Spell Check on by default - If checked, the Auto Spell Check will be on when a new document is opened. The Auto Spell Check can be turned on and off for each individual document by pressing the Auto Spell Check button. 

Quick Preview on by default. - If checked, the Quick Preview will be on when a new document is opened. The Quick Preview can be turned on and off for each individual document by pressing the Quick Preview button. 

Don't warn me about Internet connections - By default, the Editor will prompt you before connecting to an external web site IF it detects that you may not have an Internet connection. On some networks this may not work. You can uncheck this option to avoid this prompt.

Set Editor Highlighting colors and options - This button will show the dialog to configure the Editor text colors and options. Explore this dialog to customize the Editor to your liking.

Testing and Uploading Preferences

Favorite Browser - Specify the path of your favorite browser (not your default browser).

Compress HTML Files on upload - (Off by default) This option compresses files as they are uploaded to your server. (See Uploading files) The original file on your disk IS NOT modified, just the copy that ends up on the server. Normal compression will result in an 8% to 20% savings in the file size. Compression of the HTML files has the following benefits:

  • Faster Uploads.
  • Faster Downloads for visitors to your page.
  • Makes it harder for people to "steal" (read) your html code since there are no returns in the document. (It will appear as one long line of HTML)

Compression consists of removing characters that are not needed and replacing some tags with shorter tags with the same functionality.

Applications Preferences

The CoffeeCup HTML Editor comes with 5 configurable Stand Alone Application buttons. Basically, these are assignable links to other programs on your PC. There are five slots for you to assign your programs.

Once assigned to a program, when you click the icon the program will start up. Additionally, you can specify the location to the Image Mapper and Style Sheet Maker. Now you can be Multi-Tasking your way through web pages.

Directory Preferences

In the Directories Preferences Tab, you can set the default directories for the following items:

  • Working Directory
  • Image Directory
  • Background Images Directory
  • Sounds Directory
