Installation

1. Unzip all files to a floppy disk or to a subdirectory.
2. Run Setup and follow Setup wizard's instructions.
3. If a shutdown and restart message is displayed then do so.
4. ChangeExt support should now be available on all file objects context menus.

Removal

1. Open Control Panel
2. Select Add/Remove Programs
3. Select ChangeExt 1.71
4. Follow Uninstall wizard instructions.

Operation

Changing a file's extension is as simple as right-clicking a file and selecting a file type from a list of entries as defined in the system registry.

1. Right-clicking on a file object within the Explorer's namespace pops up a context menu showing available options.

2. ChangeExt adds a submenu "Extension: xxx" (where 'xxx' is the file's extension).

3. Keeping the menu selected for a few seconds then pops up a list of file attributes associated to the selected file (see figure at right).

4. Selecting the Type menu item or the Change item of the Attributes submenu brings up a "File Information" dialog for the selected file.

5. To change the extension, either select an item from the "Registered file types" list or type in the extension in the "New extension" field.

6. Hit OK to continue with the rename, or Cancel to abort.
