Chapter 12 - Basic Interface Elements

Pointers

OpenDoc defines specific pointer shapes for use in specific situations. Each row in Table 12-1 indicates a possible mouse pointer location and its corresponding pointer shape. Every part should observe these guidelines to ensure consistency in the user experience.

Table 12-1 Pointer locations and shapes

Mouse pointer location	Pointer shape
Content area of inactive frame with no modifier key pressed	(According to kind of content)
Content area of inactive frame with Shift or Command modifier key pressed
Content area of active frame	(According to kind of content)
Border of active frame with mouse button not pressed
Border of active frame with mouse button pressed
Content area of selected frame
Border of selected frame	(Or standard pointer for content)
Resize handles of selected frame
Content area of selected bundled frame

Because the active frame border is 4 pixels wide, the pointer changes to the hand shape as soon as it is within the border. The selected frame border is only 1 pixel wide, so there is a 1-pixel slop on the inside and a 1-pixel slop on the outside, for a total width of 3 pixels, where the cursor changes shape.
