Japanese artists in the U.S. (N.Y., New York)

There are many Japanese artists who are based in New York City. Japanese musician and composer Sakamoto Ryuichi became the first Japanese person to receive an Academy Award for Music (Original Score) and a Grammy Award for the movie "The Last Emperor" released in 1988. Sakamoto also composed the music for the opening ceremonies of the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.
