Harajuku

The Harajuku/Omotesando area is where many of Tokyo's fads and fashions are born. Omotesando was originally built as a road leading to Meiji Jingu Shrine for those paying homage there. The shrine is dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken (Emperor Meiji's consort). Today, Omotesando is a fashionable European-style tree-lined avenue where you can find many flagship stores of top-class designer brands. The shops in neighboring Harajuku also attract many young people. It features stores that offer unique items that have been carefully selected according to the tastes of the shop management. Also found in Harajuku are stores that primarily handle imported products.
