Be User Documentation

Developer Release 8 of the BeOS comes with an installation guide and a user's guide. With the release of DR8.2, the user's guide is now provided on-line in HTML format, so you can read it in the BeOS using NetPositive. The user's guide is also available in Adobe Acrobat format, so you can read and print it in other operating systems.

Note: The HTML edition of the BeOS User's Guide that shipped on the DR8.2 BeOS for Power Mac CD suffered from a number of HTML errors, which are corrected in the version available here.

The BeOS User's Guide

The BeOS User's Guide shows you how to work with the Be user interface, how to use the Be applications, and how to use the Be development environment on the BeBox and on a Macintosh. It also provides some hints for troubleshooting.

Prior to the release of the BeOS for Power Macintosh, Be user documentation for both the BeBox and the BeOS were included in one book, the Be User's Guide, which is currently being split into separate hardware and software books. The BeOS User's Guide is an updated edition of the software portions of the Be User's Guide.

This release of the BeOS User's Guide is also browsable via the Be web site. It's divided into chapters, which you can reach by following the links below:
