Inform | |
Version: 6.13 By: Stephen van Egmond E-mail: svanegmo@truespectra.com Web page: (none) Release Date: Available Now |
Info Last Modified: 5/16/97 Requires BeOS version: AA:PR License: Freeware Cost: Source Available?: Yes |
Description: This is the BeOS port of Inform, written by Graham Nelson, but compiled
by Stephen van Egmond. Since there's no "dr9" button on this
form, I'll say it here: you must be running the Preview Release of dr9 to use it.
Inform is a compiler for text adventures in the Zork style. Included
is the manual for Inform, and source for 3 sample games including a port of the
original Adventure by Crowther and Woods.
Inform uses a C-like language and outputs to the "Z-machine" virtual machine.
One Z-Machine interpreter for the BeOS is Frotz (which should be brought to dr9 RSN)

Optimizing Oberon-2 Compiler | |
Version: 1.1.0 By: Michael Griebling E-mail: grieblm@inforamp.net Web page: Available Release Date: Available Now |
Info Last Modified: 3/8/97 Requires BeOS version: DR8 License: Freeware Cost: Free Source Available?: Yes |
Description: An optimizing Oberon-2 compiler which currently has one
back-end producing ANSI-C source code. Oberon-2 is a
Pascal-like language with modern object-oriented
facilities and name-space resolution through modules.
Oberon-2 is much easier to learn than C++ and every bit
as powerful and efficient. It is a much safer programming
language since it makes errors visible much earlier and
promotes type-safe programming. It also comes complete with
real-time garbage collection as a language feature. (Not
currently available on the BeBox).
The compiler
features complete make/build facilities, an EMACs major
mode, and interfaces to a code management system (RCS).
Currently only C interfaces are supported via a special
mapping mechanism so any volunteers willing to provide a
C-interface to the BeOS would be welcome. OOC's output
is compatible with the Metrowerk's tools and the GNU GCC
tools. A precompiled version of the compiler for BeOS
is available from the primary ftp site. The secondary
site has the complete compiler source code in both C
and Oberon-2.
Contact the original author, Michael van Acken at
acken@informatik.uni-kl.de for compiler related stuff;
BeBox port questions to me.
