"We are thrilled JBuilder has been so widely embraced by corporate customers, resellers, and educators worldwide," said Del Yocam, Borland's chairman and CEO. "We are particularly pleased with the many customers who have already started developing JBuilder Client/Server Suite enterprise applications. This is proof positive our customers are adopting our new tools and technologies to create corporate-wide Information Networks." As part of today's announcement, Borland said that a significant number of large corporations and government agencies have purchased JBuilder, including Volvo, Daiwa Securities, MicroAge, NationsBank, Ohio Department of Transportation, Eli Lilly, Nationwide Insurance, Swiss Bank Corporation, Mercedes Benz, Long Term Capital Management, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, ClearNet, Manualife Financial, Chevron Canada Resources, Northern Telecom, Revenue Canada, Agriculture Canada, Statistics Canada, Canadian Coast Guard, Kraft General Foods Canada, Xerox Canada, CGI Group, Maritime Telegraph & Telephone, Novatel Communications, Transportation Canada (Ministry of), The Canadian Ministry of the Environment, Crownlife Insurance Company, The Toronto Star (Newspaper), and Glaxo-Wellcome.
NationsBank
"JBuilder is the best product for our upcoming and ongoing three-tier development projects," said John Melka, vice president and senior systems engineer of NationsBank Services, Inc., Global Finance Technology support for NationsBank. "We chose JBuilder Client/Server Suite as our primary Java development tool because of its enterprise-level support for CORBA components, advanced database support and software configuration management capabilities."
Daiwa Securities
"Borland's JBuilder and DataGateway provide us with the best tools available today for Java development," said Jeffry Borror, director of information technology at Daiwa Securities America, Inc. "We have already successfully deployed one project using JBuilder Professional and we look forward to using JBuilder Client/Server Suite on numerous projects."
Ohio Department of Transportation
"JBuilder Client/Server Suite is leading us into the future of enterprise development," said John Lavkulich, administrator of application services at the Ohio Department of Transportation. "We were primarily a mainframe-based shop and needed to move to an object-oriented, client/server environment. We chose JBuilder as our primary development tool for this transition because it satisfied all of our requirements and was the best solution for three-tiered development. We already have two enterprise development projects in the works with JBuilder and expect to deploy the first module early next year -- we believe that JBuilder offers us the best chance of successfully deploying an object-oriented, client/server application."
Reseller Success "In the first few months JBuilder has been available, sales have greatly exceeded our expectations," said Jim Kalasky, vice president of merchandising at Egghead Software. "We have already re-ordered the product several times and expect the strong sales to continue. Our customers are telling us that JBuilder is the best rapid development tool available for Java."
JBuilder 3rd-Party Support In addition, major computer book publishers, including Sams, IDG, Sybex, Osborne and MIS Press are supporting JBuilder users of all experience levels with comprehensive tutorial, solution-oriented and reference books. Borland Press/Sams has published Teach Yourself JBuilder in 21 Days. These JBuilder titles are available at computer stores and at independent and chain bookstores. Other Borland JBuilder partners include Oracle Corp. and IBM. As announced earlier this year, Oracle is licensing Borland's Java development technologies for use with Oracle's own database systems and application development tools. Under the terms of this agreement, Oracle will integrate and distribute JBuilder technology with a number of Oracle's existing and future products. In July, IBM and Borland announced a joint development effort to explore ways through JBuilder and IBM's San Francisco Project to improve the enterprise-wide Java development process through an integration of visual tools, Wizards and object-oriented components.
Educational Success
"Since most of our students will be developing platform-independent applications for the Internet, we feel JBuilder is the ideal product for teaching students about Java development," said George Mirza, professor of information and management technology at Arizona State University East. "Unlike Visual J++, which is a very hard product to learn, JBuilder is extremely intuitive and will help minimize our students' learning curve. JBuilder is the best development tool to teach our students because it is the only Java product with conforms to the 100% Pure Java specification and the IDE is something many of our students are already familiar and comfortable with, as we also teach courses in Delphi and Borland C++Builder."
