JBuilder Press Release

BORLAND ANNOUNCES OPEN JBUILDER PARTNER PROGRAM
ISV Program for JavaBeans™ Developers

WASHINGTON, -- Oct. 30, 1996 -- Borland International Inc. announced today its new Open JBuilder Partner Program for independent software vendors creating JavaBeans components. Borland is launching its Partner Program following the announcement made by Sun Microsystems, Inc.'s JavaSoft division that it has frozen the JavaBeans™ specification. Open JBuilder is the new name for Latte, Borland's upcoming Java application development tool.

The program is designed to assist independent software vendors developing JavaBeans components. It provides selected developers with pre-release versions of Open JBuilder, allowing them to take advantage of the first and most mature support for JavaBeans in a development environment to develop and test components. In addition, the program offers selected developers technical support, documentation, samples, and co-marketing opportunities.

"Borland has played a key role in the development of JavaBeans since the project's conception, and we are very excited about their support," said David Spenhoff, director of product marketing for JavaSoft. "Effective tools are a critical factor in the widespread adoption of JavaBeans. Borland's Open JBuilder and its Partner Program will do great things for JavaBeans."

"We are pleased to be able to accelerate the adoption of JavaBeans by facilitating the process by which ISVs can build and market JavaBeans components," said Jeff Rudy, vice president of development at Borland. "The Open JBuilder Partner Program provides selected ISVs with everything they need to develop components and offers them access to Borland marketing channels to reach Open JBuilder customers."

Open JBuilder Partner Program for JavaBeans
The Open JBuilder Partner Program for JavaBeans is designed to give selected Java™ developers a wide range of products and services enabling them to create, test and market JavaBeans components to Open JBuilder customers. The program will provide selected independent software vendors with pre-release versions of Open JBuilder, access to on-line technical support for Open JBuilder, a free copy of Open JBuilder when it is released publicly, electronic access to the Open JBuilder development team and contact with Borland's developer relations department. Members will also be able to participate in a number of co-marketing activities to help make components easily accessible to Open JBuilder customers. For more information on Borland's Partner Program for JavaBeans, independent software vendors are invited to browse Borland's website.
