JBuilder Press Release

BORLAND INTRODUCES HIGH-END INTERNET SOLUTIONS PROGRAM
Company Showcases New Java and Client/Server Database Technologies at Software Development East Trade Show

WASHINGTON -- October 1, 1997 -- Borland International, Inc. (NASDAQ:BORL) today launched a new Internet Solutions Program for corporate intranet and Java application developers looking to bridge client/server database systems and Internet platforms to create highly-efficient, platform-independent Information Networks. Borland made the announcement at the Software Development 97 trade show and conference being held here this week (booth #420).

Based on Borland's JBuilder and IntraBuilder Client/Server development suites, the new Internet Solutions Program combines the power of the Java and JavaScript programming languages with component-based visual tools, high-performance database connectivity, a sophisticated HTML database reporting engine, and one-year maintenance and high-end technical support contracts.

"Borland's goal is to provide corporate customers with the products, programs and support they need to build open and scalable Internet database solutions," said John Floisand, vice president of worldwide sales, Borland International. "This new program delivers a comprehensive package of proven client/server development tools and support services for producing high-quality Internet software applications."

    JBuilder for Pure Java Development
Borland JBuilder is a family of highly-productive, visual development tools for creating high-performance, platform-independent applications using the Java programming language. JBuilder's scalable, component-based environment is designed for all levels of Information Network development projects ranging from applets and applications that require desktop database connectivity, to client/server and enterprise-wide, distributed multi-tier systems. As part of Borland's Golden Gate strategy to support major industry standards in all of its tools, JBuilder's open environment supports "100% Pure Java," JDK 1.1, JavaBeans, JFC, AFC, RMI, CORBA, JDBC, and all major corporate database servers. JBuilder also provides developers with a flexible open architecture to incorporate third-party tools, add-ins and JavaBean components.

IntraBuilder Client/Server for Database Web Integration
Borland's IntraBuilder Client/Server combines visual development tools with a scalable, high-performance application server allowing developers to build open, business-critical Web applications for enterprise-wide data sharing over Information Networks. Based on a high-performance, server-side implementation of JavaScript, the product supports the creation of thin-client applications that can run on a PC, Macintosh, or UNIX Web browser located anywhere in the world. IntraBuilder supports all major Internet standards, including HTML, HTTP, CGI, NSAPI, ISAPI, ActiveX components, and Java applets, and is compatible with Microsoft and Netscape Web browsers and servers. IntraBuilder can also be integrated with JBuilder to provide high-performance Web-based database reporting for Java applications accessing Oracle, Sybase, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix, DB2, and InterBase database servers.
