HP Fax, All-in-One, and Other Printers

All Fax and All-in-One products that are currently shipping, or will ship in the future, are Year 2000 compliant.

Products that are no longer in production, but are still eligible for HP support as of January 1, 2000, have been evaluated for Year 2000 compliance. In cases where an issue has been identified, a "workaround" solution may be available. If an acceptable workaround solution cannot be identified, HP will make available an upgrade path. In some cases there may be a cost associated with the upgrade path.

The following table provides current Year 2000 status for products from the All-in-One division. Several products, while Year 2000 compliant, do exhibit minor issues that do not significantly affect functionality and require little or no user action. Step-by-step implementation instructions and workarounds will be posted on the HP web site at http://www.hp.com/year2000.

HP LaserJet Printers - Year 2000 Compliance

All HP LaserJet printers are Year 2000 compliant or have no date related processing HP LaserJet

printers will operate correctly in the Year 2000 when installed in a system whose other component products are Year 2000 compliant. You should check with your computer manufacturer, operating system, networking operating system and application software vendors to ensure their system components are Year 2000 ready.

As part of the Year 2000 testing, HP LaserJet printer components including hardware, software, firmware and networking components were evaluated. The following provides details on these printer components.

HP LaserJet Printer Hardware

The hardware in HP LaserJet printers do no date related processing.

HP LaserJet Software Installation

HP supplies a printer driver Installer with its LaserJet printers. The Installer will check for previously loaded printer drivers. If a driver already exists on the computer, the Installer will compare versions of the existing driver with the one being installed and will give the user the option to keep or install the later version of the driver. This version checking is done using 4 digits for the year. HP has tested this version

checking and found it to be Year 2000 compliant.

HP LaserJet Printer Firmware Add-ons

Sometimes Non-HP personalities are added using the SIMM or DIMM connectors on the printers. If two or more of the same type of personality is installed in the printer, the printer firmware will check the

version of the SIMMs or DIMMs and run the most current version. The suggested format of the version field is a date. The version checking is done using a 4-digit year. HP has tested this version checking and found it to be Year 2000 compliant.

HP LaserJet Printer Networking Solutions

Some HP LaserJet printers are shipped with an HP JetDirect print server and HP JetAdmin network peripheral management software for attaching printers to a network. These HP networking products do

FLATBED SCANJET PRODUCTS

The HP ScanJet product firmware, HP PrecisionScan software, HP PictureScan software, HP DeskScan II software, and the HP ScanJet Copy Utility have been reviewed and determined to be free from any dependency on, or impact by, the eventual date change to the Year 2000. All HP ScanJet scanners are Year 2000 safe when installed in a system whose other component products are Year 2000 compliant.

NOTE: Other software packages, such as Visioneer PaperPort (TM), Caere OmniPage, or Corel Photo-Paint, bundled with the HP ScanJet products have not been reviewed by HP for Year 2000 compliance. Information regarding these applications must be obtained from their respective manufacturers.

Network ScanJet Products

The HP Network ScanJet 5 scanner is Year 2000 compliant with firmware v 2.0 or above. The firmware of the HP Network ScanJet 4Si scanner requires a simple upgrade to be compliant. Both firmware patches can be obtained at the HP Customer Care web site. Specific links are listed below. The software of the HP ScanJet 4Si and the HP ScanJet 5 scanners, the HP NSU software and the HP Network ScanJet 5 Utility have been reviewed and determined to be free from any dependency on, or impact by, the eventual date change to the Year 2000. All HP Network Scanners are Year 2000 safe when installed in a system whose other component products are Year 2000 compliant.
