This workshop shows you
how to eliminate dust particles or light scratches from your images
using the Dust And Scratch filter.

This process can be used to repair any image but is most effective
on areas of continuous color or pattern.

Use the Zoom tool
to magnify the dust and scratches.
Place the zoom tool cursor over the affected area, and click to
zoom in.
- Click Tools menu, Options.
- Double-click Workspace.
- Click General.
- Enable the Shape cursor for brush tools
checkbox.

Use a mask selection
to isolate the affected area. This lets you apply corrections
to this area without affecting the rest of your image.
Open the Mask tools flyout
and, click the Mask Brush Tool.

Whenever you use
a brush tool, it is important to choose the correct brush settings
for the task you are performing.
- Click View menu, Roll-Ups, Tool Settings.
- Set the nib size slightly wider than the width of the scratch
or dust particle.
- Type 25 in the Transparency box.
- Type 3 in the Soft edge box.

- Enable anti-aliasing.
- Click Mask menu, Mode, Additive.
- Paint over the affected area to create a mask selection
To start over, click Mask menu, Remove Mask

- Click Effects menu,
Noise, Dust And Scratch.
- Move the Threshold slider to 0.
- Move the Radius slider to 5.
- Click the Preview button to view the results in the results
window.
- Click OK.
To return to the original
zoom level, click View menu, Zoom 100%.

Now that you have completed the exercise, the mask selection is
no longer needed. To remove it, click Mask, Remove.
