General Notes

Periodically, it might be necessary to restore the application's workspace to its default settings. To restore the factory defaults in CorelDRAW(R), Corel PHOTO-PAINT(R), Corel R.A.V.E.(TM), or CorelTRACE(TM), follow the steps below:

1    Start the application.
2    Press and hold the F8 function key.
      A message dialog asks if you want to overwrite the current workspace.
3    Select Yes.

You will now launch the application using the program's original workspace settings. Note that you lose any workspace customization (toolbars, menu items, and so on).

General

With certain types of installations, you might find a delay between selecting the Install button on the Ready to Install setup screen and choosing to restart your system. Please be patient.
The following list displays all the components available for installation with CorelDRAW 10 Graphics Suite. An asterisk (*) indicates that the component is part of the Typical installation option. All other items are available by running the Custom installation option and the Add Component installation.

Before installing CorelDRAW(R) 10

Before you run the CorelDRAW 10 setup, ensure that all applications are closed. This includes all virus detection programs and any other applications that are open in the system tray or on the Windows taskbar. Not doing so might increase the installation time and interfere with the normal setup process.

Removing older versions of applications

Corel does not recommend installing CorelDRAW 10 applications over any earlier release version (for example, CorelDRAW 6, CorelDRAW 7, CorelDRAW 8, CorelDRAW 9). Please ensure that you install CorelDRAW 10 applications to a new folder.

To uninstall a earlier version, run the Corel Uninstall program from Start > Programs > CorelDRAW > Setup and notes (or Start > Settings > Control panel > Add/remove programs and select Corel Applications from the Install/Uninstall tab).

If you choose to install over an earlier installation of CorelDRAW 10, the files that can be modified by users will be backed up. The configuration files in CorelDRAW 10 will not be backed up (for example, workspace changes), because these files are not affected by setup.

If you install CorelDRAW 10 to a system that has any earlier release version (for example, CorelDRAW(TM) 6, CorelDRAW 7, CorelDRAW 8, CorelDRAW 9) and decide to uninstall CorelDRAW 10, you might encounter problems with your earlier version. If so, please re-run the earlier version's setup.

When installing and uninstalling this application, take note of any color profiles, scripts, or sample files that you might have modified and saved to its original name. To prevent the removal or overwriting of the current color profiles, scripts, or sample files that you have modified, ensure that you copy the modified files to another location before installing updates or uninstalling this application.

Adding, deleting, and updating CorelDRAW 10(R) components

After installing CorelDRAW 10, you can add components to the installation. You can delete CorelDRAW 10 components to free up disk space. You can also update components to refresh their configuration settings. Updating components also repairs CorelDRAW 10 if you have accidentally deleted application files.

Corel does not recommend installing additional CorelDRAW 10 components to different locations.

To add components to a CorelDRAW 10 installation

1 Close any open CorelDRAW 10 applications.
2 On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > CorelDRAW 10 > Setup and notes > Corel setup program.
3 Enable the Add new components button.
4 Click the Next button and follow the installation instructions in the Setup Wizard.

To delete installed CorelDRAW 10 components
1 Close any open CorelDRAW 10 applications.
2 On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > CorelDRAW 10 > Setup and notes > Corel uninstall program.
3 Click the Next button, and follow the installation instructions in the Corel Uninstaller.

To update a CorelDRAW 10 installation
1 Close any open CorelDRAW 10 applications.
2 On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Programs > CorelDRAW 10 > Setup and notes > Corel setup program.
3 Enable the Update current installation button.
4 Click the Next button.
5 Click the Install button.

To remove other applications to preserve disk space
1 Click Start > Settings > Control panel.
2 Click Add/remove programs, then follow the on-screen prompts.

If Add/Remove Programs does not include an option to remove the program, check whether the original setup or install program includes an uninstall option. If there isn't an Uninstall option, delete the program files manually or use one of the uninstall programs available from your software retailer.

Under certain circumstances, the Corel Uninstaller program might be removed from the system prematurely. Should this occur, simply copy the file uninst32.exe from the root of CD#1 to the Operating System\Corel folder (for example, \Windows\Corel).

Disk space requirement

The amount of disk space required for this installation might vary depending on drive configuration. For example, a 2Kb file on a FAT (File Allocation Table) formatted disk will occupy 16Kb on a 1Gb drive, and 32Kb on a 2Gb drive. The installation bases its calculation on the actual file size and not the required disk space size. Therefore, installing on a large, partitioned FAT formatted drive that is almost full could result in disk space errors towards the end of the installation.

To conserve disk space during the installation, not all the frames and bitmap fills will be installed. However, all are included on the CD in their corresponding folders (\Custom\Frames and \Custom\Tiles).

Registration

The On-line Registration Wizard does not accept Asian characters, so please enter information with your IME off. Otherwise, register your software using other registration options.

CorelDRAW(R) 10 Application Readme Notes

Help/Tutors

Context Help can be accessed from the menus by holding down the ALT key and the underlined letter, then pressing the F1 function key.

File I/O

To maintain the position and size of all objects created in a file during importing, press the Space bar or Enter key when the import cursor appears.

Convert to Curves

Using Convert to Curves on filled Basic Shape objects found in the new Perfect Shapes(TM) tool--which include Basic, Flowchart, and Star shapes--could result in incomplete fills.

Rollovers

Drop Shadow effects applied to rollover objects are only maintained for the active state when saved and re-opened.

Text and Styles

Some limitations may occur when embedding script fonts using TrueDoc.

If effects such as blends, contours, and lenses are applied to text strings containing an embedded graphic, the graphic will not display on the screen or print satisfactorily.

Globalization/Multilingual Support

Multilingual support applies to text within the document only.

Double Byte and Bi-Directional fonts are not supported when using TrueDoc to embed fonts within a document.

On Microsoft Windows(R) 2000, changing the default Writing Tools language in CorelDRAW 10 will cause the matching keyboard language to appear in the taskbar even if this input language is not installed by the user. This results from the operating system making all required .KBD files available when multi-language support is installed.

When installing different language keyboards on Microsoft Windows(R) NT or Microsoft Windows(R) 2000, you must change both the input locale and the keyboard layout to an appropriate language for CorelDRAW in order to apply the correct text formatting.

CorelDRAW 10 uses a new method to enumerate multilingual fonts. However, because this differs from the font enumeration method used in earlier versions, the following limitations will occur:

When saving a CorelDRAW document as Version 9 or earlier, the font codepage information will not be maintained.
When opening earlier version files that contained multilingual fonts (for example, Arial CYR), the Panose dialog will be invoked even if the font is installed on the system. The user needs to make the appropriate font substitution (to the appropriate typeface and codepage) and save the changes to the exceptions file once. When you are finished, save the file to a Version 10 format. You do not have to do this again.
When opening earlier version files, the user must select each text object and set the appropriate language for that object using the Language dialog so that the correct Writing Tools language (for spell checking and hyphenation) can be applied to the various text objects in the document. Also, the user can re-apply a multilingual font so that the appropriate character set is displayed.
When opening a file you have created in earlier versions of CorelDRAW, the characters might become unreadable or you might not be able to change the font. In CorelDRAW 10, the fonts are only intended to be applied to languages which the font will work in. If you select text that is unreadable or if you need to change the font, do the following:

1 Click Text > Writing Tools > Language.

2 Select the language of the current text. The characters should then be correct and allow you to change the font.

Bi-Directional support

When using the Bi-Directional features in CorelDRAW (when made available through your operating system), if you wish to maintain your Bi-Directional text when saving to Version 8 format, please use the Version 8.0 BiDi option in the Save and Save As dialog.

When running on an operating system with Bi-Directional language support, some limitations may occur in the maintenance of text attributes saved in styles when saving as previous version files.

Global IME

The Global IME is only supported at document level only.

Fills and Outlines

The Lab color model values have changed from Draw 9. The "A" and "B" values now range from -128 to +127. The earlier range was -60 to +60.

Color Palette Browser

There are new buttons added to the Color Palette Browser. The Create palette from document button requires at least one object onscreen. The Create palette from selection button requires at least one object onscreen to be selected.

Create Pattern

To see your newly created Full Color Patterns in the Full Color Pattern drop-down list (Pattern Fill dialog), you must save the patterns to the \Corel\Graphics10\Custom\Patterns folder. This folder is not necessarily the default folder, so manually navigating to it might be required.

Undo Docker

As certain features available within CorelDRAW are not supported by Visual Basic for Applications, the Save list to VBA macro command may ignore certain steps in the list.

Artistic Media Tool

Users should not spray complex objects over each other. This will result in long display times.

Real Time Preview

Real Time Preview in CorelDRAW 10 enables viewing of object manipulation in real time. To do this, the XOR states in CorelDRAW 9 (while using the TAB key and the mouse to drag an object) were disabled. In the current version, the TAB key will revert to Wireframe View as you can drag a complex object with Real Time Preview enabled. This will result in faster rendering and processing capabilities of the computer depending on the memory. The control for Real Time Preview can be found under Tools > Options > General.

Zoom/Display

In CorelDRAW 10, the active document will remain in the same position when the docker is opened or closed/collapsed.

Microsoft(R) Visual Basic(R) for Applications

Microsoft(R) Visual Basic(R) for Applications 6.2 must be installed to use Visual Basic for Applications in CorelDRAW 10. Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications 6.2 is included in the CorelDRAW 10 Setup under Custom Install options.

Corel PHOTO-PAINT(R) 10 Application Readme Notes

Text

Text objects from .CPT 7/8 files created in version 7 or 8 might not retain their font and font attributes when re-edited in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 10.

Text objects in files saved from Corel PHOTO-PAINT 10 as .CPT 7/8 cannot be re-edited in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 10. Instead, they will be treated as bitmapped objects.

Publish to PDF

If you cannot access Publish to PDF from the File menu, close all images except one to access the option. Afterwards, you will be able to have more than one image open, and you will be able to select Publish to PDF during that session.

Globalization

Double-byte numbers are not supported in the dialog boxes. Type numbers in single byte in the dialog box.

Using Global IME might result in double-text entry. The local IME for the active operating system will not experience this problem.

If a text string contains more than one language, select one language's text at a time and apply a font that is supported. Selecting all of the multiple languages in the text string and applying one font change could result in some unreadable characters.

The Fonts sample display in the format text dialog is based on the current language selected and active IME. For example, if the IME is using Japanese, and you have selected the Asian script font group, only the Japanese fonts will display as expected. The other Asian fonts might display with unreadable characters.

It is strongly recommend to restart your system after installing the Global IME or IME 2000 to activate each IME.

If the text object(s) contains multiple languages typed using different language's Global IME, some unreadable characters may appear in the File Title Bar, Object Name, or File Name. We recommend you use only the English or home system language for this area of input, especially when you save a file name.

Movies

To enable MOV and QTVR filters in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 10, you must install Apple(R) QuickTime(R) 3.0.2 or greater. An installer for QuickTime 4.1.2 is included on the CD. It is accessible from the Intro.exe executable at the root of the CD.

Microsoft(R) Visual Basic(R) for Applications

Visual Basic for Applications 6.2 must be installed to use Visual Basic for Applications in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 10. Visual Basic for Applications 6.2 is included with CorelDRAW 10 Suite and can be installed through Custom Setup or Add New Components on a secondary setup. Visual Basic for Applications can be found on Setup Component screen under Main Applications, Productivity Tools - Visual Basic for Applications 6.0 & IE 5.

When a CPT 9 file with Visual Basic for Applications is brought into Corel PHOTO-PAINT 10, the following Corel PP10 message appears: This document contains a PP9 VBA project. This project isn't compatible with subsequent version. It won't be opened, and will be discarded when you save the document.

When a CPT 9 file with Visual Basic for Applications is opened and then saved in Corel PHOTO-PAINT 10, the code is lost, but you can still open the image.

Corel R.A.V.E.(TM) Application Readme Notes

General

Perfect Shapes(TM) cannot be changed by adding keyframes. To tween a Perfect Shape, you should create two instances with different properties, blend them, and then select Movie > Create sequence from Blend.

Color Management

Color Management is not available in Corel R.A.V.E. As a result, colors in Corel R.A.V.E. might appear differently from the other applications in the suite.

Fills and Outlines

Although you cannot create Postscript Fills in Corel R.A.V.E., the program does support them. You can create a file containing objects with Postscript Fills in CorelDRAW and open the file in Corel R.A.V.E.

Bitstream(R) Font Navigator(TM)

The version of Bitstream Font Navigator included with this version of CorelDRAW 10 is not Double-Byte enabled.

Canto(R) Cumulus(R) Desktop 5 LE

The Users' Guide is in PDF format.

Users must use the Launch PHOTO-PAINT feature in order to edit CPT files, since double-clicking will not work.

CDR and CMX files are supported for versions 4 through 10.

CPT files are supported for versions 7 through 10.

Double-click previews are supported for CDR and CMX only.

There is a limit of 5000 images per catalog. Only two catalogs can be opened simultaneously.

Corel Media folders are supported. Notes and keywords assigned within Corel Media Folders are not maintained in Canto Cumulus Desktop 5 LE.

Apple(R) QuickTime(R) 4.1.2

Internet Access is required to install.

A registration number is not required to complete the setup.

Aveo(TM) Attune(TM)

When you uninstall using the Corel Uninstaller, Aveo(TM) Attune(TM) will not be removed. In order to uninstall Attune, use the Add/Remove feature from the Control Panel.

If Attune is selected during the installation process, a window for Microsoft Virtual Machine displays with the message: "Microsoft VM is now being installed on your system." after you restart your system. This is normal.

Corel CAPTURE(TM) 10

Size might be incorrect when Maintain aspect ratio and Specific size are both selected.

Scroll-Window capture only works with vertical scroll, not horizontal.

Corel TEXTURE(TM) 10

Images may render differently if Texture Wizard has been launched

Windows(R) 2000 users: Corel TEXTURE 10 and Corel TEXTURE BATCHER 10 might not launch if a user installs the suite as Administrator and then logs on as another user.

CorelTRACE(TM) 10

Layers and Objects are not supported in CorelTRACE 10.

Choosing Edit Image does not launch Corel PHOTO-PAINT in NT4 SP6 and Windows(R) 2000.

Fonts

The CorelDRAW 10 setup only contains a default set of fonts. Extra fonts are provided on the CD. Both True Type and Type 1 are provided on CD#1 in the Fonts folder and on CD#2 in the Extra Fonts folder.

Additional steps for installing multilingual Bitstream(R) fonts in Windows(R).

There are additional Bitstream multilingual fonts provided with CorelDRAW 10. For the multilingual Bitstream fonts to be read correctly, they must be installed using the accompanying .inf file (Corel_bt.inf), located in the same folder as the fonts. The fonts are located on CD#2 in the \Extra Fonts\Multling folder.

1 Launch Windows Explorer.
2 Insert CD#2.
3 Locate the\Extra Fonts\Multling folder.
4 Select the file Corel_bt.inf. Right-click on selected file and choose Install.

Note: After installing these fonts, you must restart Windows and initialize the Fonts folder. Close all applications and restart Windows. After Windows launches, go to the Start Menu, choose Settings > Control panel, then double-click the Fonts icon. This will open and initialize the fonts folder.

Filters

Object drop shadow properties might not be retained on import of CPT files into Draw 10.

DXF and DWG typefaces might not be retained on Import\Export.

No Panose Font Matching dialog appears on FH Import.

For HTML export, you must place objects on the CorelDRAW 10 page.

CorelDRAW 10 does not support merge modes and Layer effects for PP4\PP5 Import.

PSD IMPORT\EXPORT: Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) effects do not import. CorelDRAW does not support layer effects. Layers containing texturize merge mode are exported to normal merge mode since Adobe Photoshop does not have a texturize merge mode.

For an Alpha channel to appear correctly in Bryce's Picture Loader, export the file using RLE Compression.

RIF Import does not support vector shapes. CorelDRAW will only import flattened bitmapped images.

We recommend using the Open command to open the FPX images since using the Import command could have unexpected results.

SVG: URLs will not be imported.

Corel R.A.V.E. does not support compressed .wav files.

If unexpected results occur upon importing text files into Corel R.A.V.E., turn off the Movie Timeline.

Bullets may be dropped on export of some text formats.

SVG Export and rollovers: Rollovers are only supported using the Adobe SVG viewer plug-in in Microsoft Internet Explorer. In Netscape, rollovers will not be supported.

Counter and Clockwise fountain fills are not supported directly by SVG, so they are broken into multi-object\fills.

Flash SWF Export: By default, text is exported as curves; however, limited text as text support can be enabled by changing the SWF options.ini settings for Text as Text = 0 to Text as Text = 1. Text as text can help minimize file size with files containing a significant amount of text in which characters are reused. NOTE: Text as text cannot be clipped and may import inverted into Macromedia Flash.

For WYSIWYG dimensions, ruler measures should be based on pixels at 72 dpi when exporting to the SWF format.

Prepress

Documents printed to file with Trapping parameters included will not open in Trapwise.

An imposed Postscript file with Bitmap fills will not open in Trapwise.

When you send a document using spot colors with In-RIP trapping (specified to the Agfa Taipan RIP), the spot colors will be converted to CMYK. The conversion will be successful if the separations are done from CorelDRAW.

CorelDRAW cannot import PS level-3 files. (This is a limitation of the PS Interpreter.)

Duotone and EPS images will not be visible when Published to PDF, but they will print successfully.

PDF import: Square blends, Mesh fills, and Double Byte Fonts will not import into CorelDRAW; however, they will publish successfully. PDFs with 1-bit TIFF might not import correctly. When importing PDFs created in other PDF applications, some overprint settings might not be maintained.

Publish To PDF files that have Bleed, Trims, Targets, and information will not print correctly to RIPs that do not support bleed and media bounding boxes.

Application Integration

For Corel VENTURA(TM) 8 to recognize CorelDRAW 10 or Corel PHOTO-PAINT 10, an entry must be inserted into the 'ventura.ini' file. For complete instructions, please refer to the topic Editing pictures in CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT in Corel VENTURA 8 Help. The Help file tells you that the the VectorEdit and BitmapEdit settings in the [EditIn] section of the VENTURA.INI file identify the CorelDRAW (VectorEdit) and Corel PHOTO-PAINT (BitmapEdit) versions that Corel VENTURA supports. You can find out what version of Corel products you are running by clicking Help > About. If you install new releases of CorelDRAW or Corel PHOTO-PAINT you should edit the [EditIn] section of the VENTURA.INI file. Insert the version number in the appropriate line after a semicolon. The updated section should read:

The default VENTURA.INI file can be edited with any text editor. It is located in C:\COREL\GRAPHICS8\WORKSPACE\VENTURA8\_DEFAULT. You should not have Corel VENTURA running when editing VENTURA.INI.

Please note that the Corel VENTURA 8 cannot read files saved directly from CorelDRAW 10 or Corel PHOTO-PAINT 10. It is necessary to save CorelDRAW .cdr files to Version 8.0 format and Corel PHOTO-PAINT .cpt files for Version 7/8 format.
