Restorer2000 FAQ

1. What the differences are between Free, Standard and Pro versions?

Free version restores just first 32 Kb segment of the file, or entire file if it's size less than 32Kb. This is a trial version.

Standard version restores files on your NTFS partition, but is not able to repair damaged partitions.

Pro version is full-functional tool for data recovering.

2. Where is the best way to repair hard drive with bad sectors?
To get the best result, from
Drive menu (or context menu) choose Create Image File command to copy damaged data to the another hard drive. You can create Image for segments of the partition, Image for the whole partition, or even Image for the full hard drive.
To adjust number of attempts to read bad sectors use
Set Read Attempts command. After Image creation finishes, you can open Image using Open Image File command, and work with your data.

3. What means Region? How can I use it?

Region defines scope for disk scanning. Region has been used for creation of Image file.

Region has been determined by Start and Size parameters. Start is a point where scanning starts. Size is a scope for scanning.

 You can use

B - size in bytes (by default)

KB- size in kilobytes

MB- size in megabytes

GB- size in gigabytes

Sec. - size in sectors

4. I deleted files or directories and cleaned Recycle Bin accidentally. What I can do?

a. First, do not write anything to the partition. Run Restorer2000, select this disk, then partition and click Open Drive Files toolbar button (or File menu). When scanning is completed you can find deleted files in tree. You can use Find, File Mask,  Find Next, Find Previous commands to perform custom search.

b. If these files can't be found, it means that they have been deleted from MFT. In this case you have to scan the whole hard drive.

Choose SCSI View mode (Drive \ Select toolbar button), select the hard drive and click Scan button.  Now you have couple minutes for coffee. After Restorer2000 finishes scanning you are to select the partition including deleted files using Info command from the context menu.

5. I've deleted partition... Moreover, I've created new partitions where the old ones were located. How Restorer2000 can help me?

See 4b answer. Remember, you can correct parameters for the partitions being found. See help for details...

6. Why can I see more files after scanning then I see in Windows Explorer? How I can filter deleted files only?

Restorer2000 works with a hard drive at low level, not trough the driver for the file system.

If you want to view deleted files only, clear checkmark Deleted Files in File Types dialog (File Mask command from Tools menu).

7. What if I apply Recover command to the files being not deleted?

In this case Restorer2000 will just copy these files. Their NTFS permissions will be disregarded. Even files locked by system (such as registry hives or pagefile) can be copied.

8.  Is Restorer2000 able to recover alternative data streams?

For sure.
