With the new powerplay menu system comes a few changes to how things are done.

The menu had long been a sore point with many of the readers, and to a fair extent ourselves as well. The majority of you complained that it looked bad and seemed very dated when compared to other cover CD's. We agreed with your comments and from our point of view faced the difficulty of inflexibility.

Thus the idea of the new menu was born. You've obviously noticed by now that we're using Netscape to display the menu. This was decided upon because it gives us all the flexibility we'd ever need. If we had the time, we could make a whole new menu each month (we're not though), but more importantly now we can make additions as the ever changing world of gaming journalism requires.

Netscape however because of security restrictions cannot execute any programs off the local hard drive. If it could, then idiots on the net could write Java/Netscape code to do potentially unpleasant things to your machine.

Now ease of use we feel is a must for any kind of Cover CD. So, I have a written a program that interfaces with Netscape allowing you to execute applications from a click. When you click on a link however, a dialog box will come up asking you whether you wish to open the link, or save it to disk.

You will always want to choose "Open it" so the application can run. There is however a check box that asks if you want to be asked this question again. The decision is wholly up to you, however we would advise that you always have Netscape present you with this question for security reasons.

If it annoys you too much, then disable the question by ticking the "Don't ask me this again" check box. However doing this will enable Netscape to execute applications off your Hard Disk without ever warning you.

Pex has been thoroughly tested and there is no way that a pex file can be executed from a location other then the cover CD or your own hard drive. Pex will not execute off a pex reference from the Net.

The decision is yours and we hope you appreciate our consideration of your security.
