When adding a series of photos taken under identical conditions on one roll of film, it is likely that the same adjustments (e.g., color corrections, contrast, despeckle) would apply to most if not all images of the series. Images provided on Photo CD usually have a black margin that should be cropped. Slides or transparencies may accidentally have been scanned off their backside, thus reversing the image. Some photos may be portrait mode and require rotating by 90░.
Fortunately, StudioLine provides efficient ways to deal with large series of images in just a matter of minutes.
Review the Image Archive Preferences in case your pictures have unique resolution or sizing requirements.
Open the StudioLine Explorer and create a new Image Archive folder.
Drag your images to the folder.
In the Image Archive, the tool for image alignment and cropping is also available as a preprocessor. This is ideal for removing unsightly black borders from scanned slides or Photo CD pictures, and for properly orienting images in portrait mode.
The preprocessing settings will not appear in the Image Tools list. This prevents that someone could later accidentally reverse our careful cropping. It also enables us to copy various visual effects or enhancements to a complete series of pictures û without including the rotation that was only intended for images in portrait mode.
Click the Select All button in the toolbar.
Choose Alignment Preprocessor from the Edit menu.
Crop as necessary.
Press the copy button of the Image Alignment Preprocessing panel.
Select an image in portrait mode (standing upright on their short edge).
Choose Alignment Preprocessor from the Edit menu.
Rotate the image by 90░. Use the Flip function if the image was reversed during the scanning process.
Drag the copy button of the Image Alignment Preprocessing panel to those images that require identical treatment.
Remember, you can select more than one image by holding down the Ctrl key.
Certain descriptive information may be identical for all images. All photos were taken at the same event or occasion, usually by the same photographer and at the same date. We can easily apply must of the same descriptive information against all images.
Press the Select All button on the tool bar. All images in the current folder are now selected.
Choose Image Descriptors from the Edit menu.
Select a descriptor and enter any information that is common to all pictures. The copy button of the Image Descriptor panel will turn red.
Click the copy button so that your information is added to all images in the folder.
Select another descriptor and repeat the process as often as necessary.
Select a representative image.
Choose Image Tools from the Edit menu.
Use the Tone Level and possibly the Image Enhancement tool to improve contrast and saturation as necessary.
Use the Color Tuning tool to perform any color corrections.
Use the Despeckle tool to remove any grainy artifacts.
Of course, this is just a list of common tasks. Your images may need fewer or more corrections.
Click the right mouse button over the image that we just enhanced. The context menu opens.
Choose Active Image Tools to see the list of all image enhancements.
Press the Select All button on tool bar. All images in the current folder are now selected.
Click the copy button of the Image Tools list.
At this point, StudioLine will apply the identical enhancements to your series of pictures. If there are many hundreds of images involved, this could take minutes or even hours. Yet, this process is still much faster than manually enhancing each image individually û and it runs entirely unattended, freeing up your time for other matters.
At this point, portrait images have been rotated and all images have been preset with identical descriptive information. The same enhancements were applied across the board.
To customize individual images, simply use the right mouse button to open the context menu and access the image descriptors or active tools.
StudioLine can automatically create a picture gallery for the web.
Switch to Page Editor mode and open or create a page that should hold your thumbnail gallery.
Switch to Layout mode and verify that your Layout has at least one image view defined in addition to the page itself! If not, add an image view or open the StudioLine Explorer to apply a Layout Template with image views.
Customize the Image Prototype. It represents the thumbnail pictures that will appear on your gallery page. For your gallery page, scale the prototype to a small size and apply a buttonize effect.
Select the image view from the Image Views list and customize the Image Prototype, if necessary. This time, it represents the single image that will appear if a visitor clicks on a thumbnail picture.
Switch back to Page Editor mode and open the StudioLine Explorer.
Select your folder in the Image Archive.
Press Ctrl+A to select all images in the folder.
Drag the images from the StudioLine Explorer to the container of the Page Editor.
StudioLine will now create thumbnail pictures for all the images in your folder and automatically arrange them inside the container. Each thumbnail picture links to a detail page with a larger size version. Visitors can use navigation buttons to move from picture to picture.
