The image archive is a key productivity feature of StudioLine. While its use is not mandatory, it certainly is invaluable for todayÆs media-rich web site projects. Instead of a web master having to keep track of various derivatives of the same image, StudioLine will centrally maintain picture originals in its database of images. A folder structure and powerful search engine provide for easy retrieval and reuse.
Original image corrections, such as cropping, proper alignment and color adjustments need only be performed once. When an image is placed and customized on a web page, the image archive original remains intact. Name, descriptions and other information carry over from the archive to any occurrences on all sites.
The folder pane allows you to organize your original images in folders.
To locate an image, press the Search button.
To view the content of a folder, single-click the left mouse button on the folderÆs icon.
To view a list of sub-folders, double-click the left mouse button on the folderÆs icon.
To add a folder, press the New Folder button.
To delete or rename a folder, access the context menu by clicking the right mouse button over the folderÆs name.
A system folder $AutoArchive$ contains any images, which were copied from an external source directly onto a page, rather than being first added to the Image Archive.
The $AutoArchive$ is organized by sites, templates and pages, based on where a picture was first used. If the picture is unchanged in the Image Archive and placed onto other pages from the same original, then the same copy is reused from the Image Archive. For that reason, the original name and location in the $AutoArchive$ will not be effected, even if the first-use page is ever relocated, renamed or deleted.
If a picture in the $AutoArchive$ is no longer used at all, it is automatically removed. To prevent this, move the image from the $AutoArchive$ folder structure to a user folder.
The workspace displays preview images (thumbnails) for the content of the current Image Archive folder. Display options, such as the arrangement, size and order of preview images can be customized for each folder. Simply access the context menu by clicking the right mouse button over an empty area of the workspace.
To set certain default options, select Preferences from the menu bar and then choose Image Archive.
Open the StudioLine Explorer or the Windows Explorer.
Locate your images on your local disk, a network drive.
Select one or multiple images and drag them either to the Image Archive workspace or to a folder in the folder pane.
The Image Archive will store pictures in the best available quality, based on the limits defined in the Preferences menu.
To move images between archive folders, simply open the StudioLine Explorer or another instance of the image archive. Then drag images between folders.
To create a copy of an image, choose Create a Copy from its context menu. Copying an image allows you to define different cut-out areas or apply other image tools against different copies of the same image.
Click the right mouse button over an empty spot of the Image Archive workspace.
Choose Sort from the Context Menu
Choose the Descriptor by which the images in this folder should be sorted.
New images are inserted at the proper location for the sort criteria that has been defined.
If no sort criteria has been defined, then the location can be controlled by the user. If a new image is dropped on a closed folder, it will be appended at the bottom. If a new image is dragged on the workspace, it will be inserted where it was dropped.
Some images could logically belong to more than one folder. An image shortcut allows you to include references to the same image in any number of other folders.
Select an image on the work space
Choose Create a Shortcut from its context menu
Open the StudioLine Explorer for Image Archive to locate other folders
Drag the image to any other Image Archive folder
StudioLine allows you to open multiple folders of the Image Archive by using more than one instance. This makes it possible to easily duplicate image tool settings by dragging the active tools list from images in one folder to images in another folder.
While in editing a page, layout or template, use the Context Menu of an image to open it in the Image Archive.
