Controlling ReadPlease Min/Max and System Tray
|
|
Here are the controls for ReadPlease. Some of them will be familiar.
"Stay-on-top" is a feature that enables ReadPlease to always remain
on top of all other programs running.
Note that the "X" and the "T"
do the same thing - they send ReadPlease to the system tray.
Note:
ReadPlease is a fully-elastic program, meaning you may size it
as large or as small as you like. This is a nice feature but
beware that when you size ReadPlease to a very small size,
the screen will become distorted.
It is still fully functional
but will not look pretty (controls will be distorted).
ReadPlease sits in your Windows tray. If you click on it, ReadPlease will activate.
Right Clicking will bring up a pop-up menu as shown. Note that you can Paste
& Play without Activating ReadPlease, it will play without displaying
the ReadPlease screen.

with important information. When they launch ReadPlease the specified file
will be downloaded from the Internet. If they don't have a connection,
one will be established.

Line options and Associations |
|
ReadPlease
has two options for parameters for command lines:
- readplease.exe -filename.ext
(launches ReadPlease with filename.ext - must be a text or Rich
Text File )
- readplease.exe -clip (launches
ReadPlease, and will play whatever text is in the Windows clipboard.)
ReadPlease is associated with
.rps (ReadPlease Speech) files. These files must
be text or Rich Text Format.
Note that only one copy of
ReadPlease can be run at one time. ReadPlease will still launch with command
line parameters, but without loading another session.
|
|
Launching
ReadPlease from Browsers |
|
This
information is only required if you are linking to ReadPlease files
on an Internet Server.
If you place .rps files
on an Internet Server, any visitor user with ReadPlease can just click on a
link to a .rps file and ReadPlease will download the file and read
it. Remember, these files must be text or rich text file format. All word
processors can save rich text file format.
Configuration
Internet Explorer
The ReadPlease installation
program automatically configured Windows and Internet Explorer to
recognize ".rps" files as ReadPlease speech files.
Netscape
You have to install ReadPlease as a Helper Application, here
is how:
- The settings in
the Applications preferences panel tell Navigator which helper applications
to use on your computer.
- Also, if Navigator
doesn't know which helper application to use, it guides you in finding
one.
- For experienced
users to fine-tune the Applications preferences: From the Edit menu,
choose Preferences.
- Click the Navigator
category; then click Applications. To add a new helper application to
the list, click New Type.
- Type a description
of the type of files the application works with; for instance, "ReadPlease".
Type the file extension (suffix) used by this file type (rps).
- Leave the MIME
type field blank. On Windows, click Browse and select an application
that handles files of this type.
- Click OK.
- You can specify
how Navigator should handle downloaded files. Select a file type from
the list and click Edit. Choose a "Handled By" option to have downloaded
files opened in a Navigator window, saved on your hard disk, or opened
in a application that you specify. Click Browse to specify the application.
- Uncheck "Ask
me before opening downloaded files of this type". Click OK.
Now, if you click on a link
to a .rps file in Netscape, ReadPlease will load automatically.
