CHINESE ART

This collection mainly comprises the gift of George Eumorphopoulos, one of the most important connoisseurs of Chinese civilization. The gradual evolution of Chinese ceramics from the third millennium BC. up to the 19th century is represented by more than 1,300 objects of the highest quality, all of which attest to the magnitude of China's contribution to the cultural history of humanity. Of especial importance are the magnificent Neolithic vases decorated with geometric patterns, whilst the funerary sculpture from the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD.) must be singled out as some of the most splendid creations of their type. The collection continues with elegantly proportioned and finely decorated ware dating to the Song Dynasty (960-1279), with porcelain of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1644 and 1644-1911) with, snuff bottles and by other objects in semi-precious stone.

The collection will shortly be put on display in the apartment block at Kriezotou Street in Athens, alongside the N. Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas Gallery.
