"The Friends of the Benaki Museum" is a recognised non-profit organisation which was established in 1957 by a group of individuals who wished to provide moral and financial support to the Museum.

Since then, the organisation has grown considerably, and today counts more than 800 members.

"Friends" of all ages can support the Museum by:

  • Publicising its activities;
  • Providing for the enrichment of its collections;
  • Encouraging its aims through donations, legacies, voluntary work and suggestions for improvement.

"Friends of the Benaki Museum" receive a special memberhsip card which entitles them to:

  • Free entrance to the Museum;
  • Invitations to events at the Museum;
  • Participate in the annual programme of activities organised especially for their benefit, including lectures, guided visits to the Museum focused at improving knowledge of its collections, and culturally oriented walking tours and excursions in Greece and abroad;
  • Receive the yearly bulletin "News of the Friends of the Benaki Museum".


The organisation supports the Museum in many ways, such as:

  • Organising fund-raising events;
  • Providing funds for the acquisition of works of art or for the financial needs of its various departments.


To become a member of the "Friends of the Benaki Museum", it is necessary to submit an application, supported by two regular members of the organisation, to the Board of Council.

Annual fees are 8,000 dr. for new members and 10,000 dr. for regular members.
