TurboView's Main Display Window

This discusses how to use the Main Display Window. If you RIGHT click in the display window a pop-up menu of common functions will appear for your convenience.

Before the detailed usage of the window, we will show a list of things you can do in it. And if you CLICK on a choice, you will be transferred to the appropriate spot in the help file to give you more details.
 
 

VIEWING OPERATIONS

DRAG & DROP Capabilities

TurboView has the ability to DRAG & DROP files FROM anywhere and TO anywhere.

FROM:
This means you can drag a single file or multiple files from Windows Explorer or other file manager programs. You can also drag from your desktop. Basically you can drag from anyplace that allows you to drag.

TO:
This means you can drag file(s) to programs that ACCEPT dragged files. For example, you could drag files from TurboView to Windows Explorer or to your Desktop, or to ICQ, or to an email program so that the dragged files end up being attachments. You can even drag into Web Page development programs.

You can tell if your application accepts dragged files simply by doing it. GO ahead and drag some files into your app and if you see a "+" then you are OK, if you see a circle with a slash through it then you can't drop the files.

TurboView Main Display Window

You can drag the displayed image FROM TurboView to wherever you want. If you drag files INTO TurboView then you could drag in whole folders at a time if you wish. These files will be added to the FILES LIST.

Notes DataBase Editor

You can drag the displayed thumbnail from the editor window to wherever you wish. You can NOT drag files INTO the editors window.

Files List Window

You can drag the displayed small preview to wherever you want. You can ALSO drag many HI-LITED files from the FILES LIST to wherever you want. You can of course drag ONE HI-LITED file if you wish. To see how to HI-LITE many files, click here. You can of course drag files INTO the FILES LIST. You can even drag whole folders & sub-folders at a time. They will then be added to the FILES LIST displayed.

Large Preview Windows

When a Large Preview window is the active window, you can drag the image from it to wherever you wish. You can NOT drag files INTO the Large Preview window. For more information about Large Preview Windows, click here.

HOW DO I LOAD FILES INTO TURBOVIEW

TurboView is a program that allows you to view and or play certain file types. It can view IMAGES such as BMP, JPG, GIF, PCX, and many more. It can also play SOUND files such as WAV, MID, MIDI. It can also play MOVIE files such as AVI, FLI, FLC, MOV, MPG and animated GIF files.

TurboView will display file(s) that are in the FILES LIST. This files list usually only has ONE file in it. Especially if you are just double-clicking on filenames to bring up TurboView. However, you can have LOTS of files in the FILES LIST. I have tested it with 30,000 files in fact. What you need to do is load the FILES LIST with a single filename or a list of filenames.

Basically it would be nice to have TurboView load and display the file of your choice. There are many ways to get TurboView to load and display files. Here is a list of the common ways of doing this:

DOUBLE-CLICKING ON A FILE IN EXPLORER
This is the COOL way to setup TurboView. It makes for EASY loading of the program. What you need to do first is to tell Windows 95/98/NT that TurboView is the main viewer for whatever file types you want TurboView to be loaded for. For example: If you only want TurboView to be loaded for JPG and GIF files, then go into the TurboView SETUP options and pick ONLY JPG,JPE,JPEG,GIF as the extensions to load TurboView in the Windows Operating System. LOAD AN ENTIRE FOLDER FROM WITHIN TURBOVIEW
You can click on the "LOAD" button or click on the File/Load File(s) From Current Folder or you can click on a recent folder and an open file dialog box will open up. From this open window, you can select 1 or many files. And if you wish all files to be loaded you can use the "+" sign. Click here for more information on loading files.
 

LOAD A RECENT FILE FROM WITHIN TURBOVIEW
TurboView keeps track of the most recent files you had loaded as a single file. You can pick from this list. More information.
 

LOADING FILES IN THE FILES LIST WINDOW
You can ADD files to the FILES LIST. If you click on the "ADD" button, you are brought to an open file dialog box. From here you can select files to ADD to the current list of files in the FILES LIST.
 

USE TURBOVIEW AS THE TARGET FOR THE SEND-TO OPERATION
When you select file(s) in Windows Explorer you can then RIGHT click and a pop-up menu appears. In this pop-up, you will see various things you can do like, delete, copy, send-to, etc... Once you select the SEND-TO option, you are then shown a list of programs to send the selected files to. If you had setup TurboView in your SEND-TO folder, then you could pick TurboView shortcut as the target of the SEND-TO operation. This is handy for loading MULTIPLE files into TurboView directly from Explorer.

SEND-TO setup:

GEE, all this SEND-TO stuff sounds cool, but I don't have TurboView setup as a possible target shortcut in my SEND-TO list. So, how do I set it up?

This is fairly EZ. The best way to create the TurboView TARGET Shortcut is to go to the TurboView folder. Then start to drag the TURBOVIEW.EXE program. Move it about an inch or so, so that you get the drag/drop icon showing. Then HOLD DOWN on the CTRL and SHIFT keys. You should see the drag/drop icon become the "shortcut" arrow:) Then let go of the mouse button (while the mouse cursor is STILL in the TurboView folder). It should then create the SHORTCUT right in the Turboview folder. Then MOVE the SHORTCUT into your Windows SENDTO folder. On most systems that would be located in:

C:\WINDOWS\SENDTO

Once you have dropped it into there, you can use the SENDTO feature of File Manager to display your pics. Just click on the files you want to look at then right click, then pick SENDTO, then pick TurboView and POOF you will become happyfied.
 

DRAG A FILE OR FOLDER FROM EXPLORER TO TURBOVIEW
You can use your Windows Explorer program to drag files from different folders INTO TurboView's main display window or into TurboView's Files List window. You can even select a FOLDER to drag into TurboView. If you choose to drag a folder, then it can drag THAT folder and it's SUB-folders all into TurboView.

NOTE: Please note that you may not get ALL the files that you think you should get. This can be caused if you had set the ALLOWABLE FILE TYPES to something other than what you needed. IE: If you only have GIF and BMP files selected as ALLOWABLE, and you drag in a folder with a bunch of JPG files, then you will notice that NO JPG files will get loaded. Click here on setting Allowable File Types.
 

DRAG FILE(S) ONTO THE TURBOVIEW.EXE DESKTOP SHORTCUT
If you have placed a SHORTCUT to TurboView onto your Windows Desktop, then you can drag files onto this shortcut. In fact you can drag FOLDERS onto this shortcut. TurboView will then load and display those files that were dragged onto the shortcut.
