The first episode of Alchemy went to air on Friday 31 July, 1998 at 10.55 pm. And so began an era. Dance and electronic music, club and global grooves were brought to the attention of young Australian audiences. The previously uncovered culture of innovative Australian musicians, producers, DJs and performers had been revealed. The Alchemy television music series sprung from the already existing Alchemy program on SBS Radio. This was the first youth English language music program for SBS. It quickly gained popularity and provided itself as the much needed alternative to the pop and rock' n' roll music shows that existed. Alchemy was the first music show of its kind on Australian television, and its presenters, Robbie Buck, Nicole Fossati and Frank Rodi, have blazed a trail for the showcasing of Australian talent in dance, groove and electronic music.
