Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: Can I install Seminar-On-A-Disk and InfoCheck to a network?A: Yes. InfoSource’s SODs and InfoChecks can be configured for networks or stand-alone PCs. Q: Do the products install .DLL files into my Windows directory?A: No, the products do not install any .DLL into Windows, nor do they change the Autoexec.bat or Config.sys files. Q: How do I get the products on my network?A: Install the products to your network drive, then e-mail the icons to the individual users. See the Tech Tip on network installs. Q: Is there a lockout after so many users log on to SOD or InfoCheck?A: No, InfoSource does not limit the number of network users. Q: How does the SOD Tracker Work?A: The directory structure for SODs is: ISI/Sod/Individual Title. The CBTs and SODs create a file in the SOD directory called Sodmin.txt. This is the file that Tracker uses to produce reports. It contains such information as, (Y) Yes, the students completed the CBT and (N) No, they did not, as well as the user name, user I.D., etc. When you begin importing data, Tracker will go into the install directory and look for the Sodmin.txt file. In most cases, this is the SOD directory on the network. Tracker will find the file, convert it to a Microsoft Access database file, and then delete the Sodmin.txt file. This file is deleted so that the next time SOD data is imported, there will be no duplicates. It is also possible to run Tracker off-line (not on the network), and bring the Sodmin.txt file to Tracker. If you do this, be sure to delete the Sodmin.txt file as you move it from the network so you don’t get duplicate records. Another option is to save a copy of the Sodmin.txt file under a different name. For example, if you import data once a month, you could save a copy of the Sodmin.txt file as Jan., Feb., etc., before you import into Tracker; then Tracker would delete the renamed files rather than the original. This way, if problems arise with the database, you could import the original Sodmin.txt files into a newly installed Tracker and re-create the database. Q: How does the InfoCheck Tracker work?A: The InfoCheck Tracker works
just like the SOD Tracker, except the directory structure is different. The InfoCheck
directory structure is: ISI/InfoCheck. All of the program titles are installed in the
InfoCheck directory. Also in this directory is the Admin.txt file, which contains such
information as the user name, user I.D., and test scores. The InfoCheck Tracker imports
this file just as the SOD Tracker imports the Sodmin.txt, so you can use the same methods
described above when working with the Admin.txt file. |
