The best gear for the Net — updated to 23/6/98

Our Internet Toolkit is designed to be a concise, one-stop shop for all the tools you need to get on and make the most of the Internet. It contains our selection of the latest applications available.

We update this kit every month with the latest versions of products. Throughout the year, we also supplement this kit with Power Kit features, focusing on a particular type of tool, such as browser plug-ins.

Browsers are the most powerful and popular tools in our kit, and these have their own page.

Mail and newsreaders

The Internet is the common email denominator of the world. The majority of private and public email services are either located on or have gateways to the Internet. If you are using an Internet mail server, you need an Internet mail client.

News applications allow access to Internet newsgroups. Newsgroups are discussion areas to which Internet users contribute. Thousands of discussion groups on all kinds of topics exist. Newsgroups work like a noticeboard — someone puts up a message and others add their comments or start a related discussion, or someone asks a question to which others respond.
