Compiling a bibliography and presenting it in MLA format can be a real pain. Unless you enter all your books, articles, speeches and other sources into Bibliographer and allow it to create your sorted, formatted bibliography, ready for copy-pasting into your word processor of choice. It even knows to skip words like "a" and "the" when alphabetising your entries.

Via Mac OS X's Show Info command, you can view when a file was created, modified and the applications you can use to edit it. Via Mac OS X's Terminal, you can view a file's Unix permissions. System Preferences will let you change a few dozen of Mac OS X's system settings. TinkerTool will let you edit a few dozen more, such as the style of scrolling arrows in Finder windows and the default font used by Cocoa applications. It can even make the icons of hidden applications transparent in the Dock.
