How to use Internet applications/software/game that requires a range of ports to be opened by the pppshar proxy ? or how to use any internet software that does not have a proxy setting ?
Note : If any application has socks proxy setting, then straightforward method is to configure it for SOCKS 4 or 5 proxy and port 1080. Try this alternate method only if you have problems with the socks method.
Most of the online games from services like battle.net, gamespy, heat.net, mplayer, msn game zone, etc could be played from the client machines using Sockscap. (see below) This is only for information and not an assurance. Also, there could be some limitations in the games when playing behind a proxy. First refer to the support section of the respective game services and find out if their services support proxy. You are welcome to send in your feedback.
The procedure is more or less same for all applications like dialpad.com and other netphone services. For dialpad.com and other services which are accessible through a browser, you just have to run the browser 'socksified'. You can also try DCC and fileserve using mIRC through sockscap.
Download Sockscap
(freeware) from http://www.socks.nec.com/02208448/sc32r220.exe
and install in the workstation/client machine. Sockscap enables you to use any
application (even if it doesn't have a proxy setting) behind PPPshar, as if
the software is "directly connected to Internet".
