FrontPage 98 & 2000 - Proxy Configuration
in the Client Machine
- Go to Tools-->Options
- Click the "Proxies" tab
- Under "HTTP proxy" type
your gateway machine IP like 192.168.0.1
- Tick the "Do not use proxy server for local
intranet addresses" This is optional and will be helpful when you are
previewing the pages locally.
Following information is

FRONT PAGE '98 and PPPshar
In the Gateway:
- Both PPPShar and FrontPage 98 use port 80 by
default. You can change the FrontPage 98's configuration to any unused port
(81, 8080 etc) it will work just as well.
Ensure that FrontPage 98 is not currently running.
- Edit the file "\FrontPage Webs\server\conf\httpd.cnf".
- One of the first items in this file is the port
number. Change this from 80, to one of your spare ports. If you are not sure,
try 8080 or 81.
- Next, open "\Program Files\Microsoft
FrontPage\FrontPage Server Administrator" Click on "uninstall"
and follow directions.
- Next, click on "install",
and when it asks for a configuration file, specify the path to the
"\FrontPage Webs\server\conf\httpd" file as edited above.
For other dialogues, go with the default values.
This completes the changes to get FrontPage 98
Personal Web Server off the default port 80. When you use FrontPage 98 after
this (on the gateway machine), and you open a web, you need to revise the list
of webs.
Alternately you can change the http port setting
in PPPshar to some other unused port say 81. Go to PPPsharPro-->Settings
and under #http service change listen=80 to listen=81. If you have made this
change then FrontPage 98 setting will work by default. Remember to use this
new http port in all the http proxy configuration in the client machines.
