Compuserve (to access Compuserve from the workstations/client machines)

STEP 1: The first thing you need to do is setup your PPPshar (gateway) machine to handle the proxy on port 4144. For that you should do the following:

• Open settings.ini (Start-->Program-->PPPsharPro-->Settings)
• Add the following lines at the end of settings.ini

#compuserve
service=compuserve
map=tcp
host=gateway.compuserve.com
listen=4144
remote=4144
enable=yes

• Save and close settings.ini

Make the following change in CIS.INI file in the Compuserve directory in the workstation/client machine:

1. In CSi 3.0 under Access-->Preferences in the Connection tab. You need to set the "Winsock Type" to "Default WINSOCK", and "Dial Type" to "Direct".

2. In your CIS.INI file you will find two entries of

HostIPName=gateway.compuserve.com
HostIPAddress=

Change them to your server's (Gateway) name and IP

HostIPName=gateway_machine_name
HostIPAddress=192.168.0.1

In CompuServe 2000

• Go to the "Connect to CompuServe" window
• Click on "Setup" then on "Create a location for use with new access phone numbers or an ISP" click 'Next'
• Choose "Manual Proxy Configuration" and then
• Click on "View"
• Select "Connect using proxy", and under the "Host" enter the IP address of your pppshar machine
• Change the Protocol setting to 'Socks5', then click 'OK' and 'OK'.
• Stop and restart the CompuServe 2000 browser for the settings to take effect.
