AOL
proxy configuration
STEP 1: The first thing you need to do is
setup your PPPshar (gateway) machine to handle the proxy on port 5190. For that
you should do the following:
- Open settings.ini (Start-->Program-->PPPsharPro-->Settings)
- Add the following lines at the end of settings.ini
#aol
service=aol
map=tcp
host=americaonline.aol.com
listen=5190
remote=5190
enable=yes
- Save and close settings.ini
STEP 2: Follow
the instructions below for configuring AOL software to work through PPPshar
Pro proxy.
AOL 6.0:
- Open AOL on the client
computer
- Click Setup
- Select Expert Setup
- Click the ISP/LAN
Connection
- Click Edit
- Select Manual Proxy
Configuration
- Click View
- Change the Host
at the top of this window to the IP Address of the PPPshar machine
- Tick the check box for
the option Connect using a proxy
- For the Proxy Server
Host, enter the IP Address of the gateway/pppshar machine
- Enter port number
1080
- Select Socks 5
for the Protocol
For the SOCKS proxy to work, you have to first
ENABLE DNS under
TCP/IP Network properties in the client machines.
How to.?.
AOL 5.0:
- In the Sign on
screen select SETUP
- Cick Expert Setup
in the Next box and then click Expert Add in the Next box
- In the AOL Setup
screen enter the following:
- Name: pppshar
- To the right of this
make sure ISP/LAN connection is chosen from the pull down list
- Click the Manual
Proxy Configurations radio button and click View
- In the Manual Configuration
screen the following will be entered:
- Server Host: 192.168.0.1
or the IP address of the pppshar machine, Server port should be default
port 5190
- Check the Connect
using proxy box and in the host field enter the IP address of the
pppshar machine and on port 1080 (default)
- Next to this option
select SOCKS 5 under the protocol option
- Click OK twice
and Click Close and then Sign On
For the SOCKS proxy to work, you have to first
ENABLE DNS under
TCP/IP Network properties in the client machines.
How to.?.
AOL 4.0:
- Open your AOL software V4.0
- Click the Setup button
- Click the Expert Setup button
- Click the Locations tab if
it isn't already at the front
- Click the ISP/LAN Connection
item
- Click the Edit button
- Click the Manual Proxy Configuration
radio button
- Click the View button
- Click the Connect using proxy option
- Under the Proxy Server, enter the IP
address of your gateway/pppshar machine in the Host: field
- Enter 1080 in the Port: field
- Under the Protocol section, click the
SOCKS 5 radio button
- Click OK twice and Click Close.
For the SOCKS proxy to work, you have to first
ENABLE DNS under
TCP/IP Network properties in the client machines.
