Installation Notes
- Installing JBuilder as "root"
This note applies only if you are installing JBuilder as a super-user through the "su" command.
XWindows has security restrictions that can cause a GUI application to fail if running the application as a different user than the one logged in. One such case is when you open a terminal window and use the "su" command to become "root". The error message issued is usually 'Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server'. This is a security feature, not a bug. To avoid this problem open a terminal window and type the following command:
xhost +localhost
This command notifies XWindows that any user on your machine is authorized to use your display. After the installation you can run the command:
xhost -localhost
to reset the value to the default.
Another possible side effect of this is that you will get an icon for JBuilder
Foundation installed on your desktop that does work when selected. To fix this:
- Log back in as root using the "su" command.
- Copy the link created for the icon to your local desktop.
- Insufficient available disk space reported with NFS volumes mounted
If you have any NFS volumes mounted, the installation may fail with an error reporting insufficient available disk space.
If you encounter this error and are certain they you have enough disk space available for installation, disable NFS before
installing JBuilder, then re-enable it after the installation has successfully completed.
To install the JBuilder 3.5 documentation, you
will need write access to the directory location where JBuilder is installed. You
should have at least 70 MB of available hard disk space.
- From the command line, enter sh jbuilder/sol_linux/docs/install.bin to launch the installation program.
- When prompted, choose a JDK from the list.
- Follow the prompts and click Next.
- Accept the license agreement when prompted, then click Next.
- Choose the directory where JBuilder is installed, then click Next.
Note: If you install the JBuilder documentation into a location different from the suggested default directory,
the documentation will not be accessible from the JBuilder Help Viewer.
- When the installation program is completed, click Done.
To install the JBuilder 3.5 samples, you should also have at least 10 MB of available hard disk space.
- From the command line, enter sh jbuilder/sol_linux/samples/install.bin to launch the installation program.
- When prompted, choose a JDK from the list.
- Follow the prompts and click Next.
- Accept the license agreement when prompted, then click Next.
- Choose the directory where JBuilder is installed, then click Next.
- When the installation program is completed, click Done.
- The OpenTools documentation is available at following location: jbuilder/sol_linux/opentools/opentools.tar.
- Unarchive these files into the directory where you would like this documentation stored.
Note: The files will be unarchived beginning at the root of the directory you choose.
