5ive

Hailing from Wembley in the UK, meet Sean, Scott, Richard, Ab's and J. They make up the worldwide sensation "Lad" band - "5ive." They insist that they are a lad band and not your everyday boy band. Hear it from Scott: "Yeah, we're no suited and booted boy band, with us, what you see if what you get. Five lads making great music and having a good time doing it!" Discovered by the same duo that gave us the Spice Girls, these lads have gone from strength to strength and established themselves as a global band to be reckoned with. With 3 Top ten singles and a #1 album in the UK, 64 weeks of Billboard chart success in the US and over half a million albums sold in Asia, there is absolutely no stopping them! On Mix-up we offer you a re-worked version of their debut floor busting single, "Slam Dunk Da Funk"...Take it away boys

Monkey Mafia

Monkey Mafia, aka Jon Carter, aka Artery, aka top boy of the Big beat was born 23 years ago in East London. From his early days in Southampton playing with the acid outfit, "Everybody Burns," he moved back to London and got involved in some scary drum 'n' bass recordings at the label / studio, "No U Turn." Jon then turned his skill to re-mixing, working with high profile bands like Saint Etienne and Ruby. In 1995 Monkey Mafia was formed. Apparently the name comes from an "induced" conversation about space monkeys, hmmm! Last year their debut album, entitled "Shoot the boss" was released. Jon's offers us an eclectic blending of ragga and jungle beats, he describes it as, "Dread on the bass, Lt. Skank on the sampler and Satan hitting oil drums with scaffolding poles." Our choice for you is heavy on the Beats and features the skills of Krash Slaughta on the decks. 100% roughneck style. "Blow the whole joint up," Mr Carter!

Christian Fry

From the clubs, for the clubs; the good looking, smooth moving Mr Fry has a lot to offer. At only 22, Christian is already a veteran of the "late night" - he has been DJ'ing, rapping and MC'ing with touring bands like East 17, Right Said Fred and 2 Unlimited since he was 16. Clubs are also the inspiration for his songs, "I always write my best songs after a massive night out¡Kyou have to go out and live it, you can't just sit in a room and try and feel it." After moving back to the UK from Australia last year, Christian teamed up with songwriter to the stars, Elliot Kennedy and recorded 4 tracks at the famous "Steelworks" studio in Sheffield. Since then he has had a chance to tour with Boyzone and has been doing extensive club and TV appearances. His shagtastically chunky first single is called "You got me"¡Kooh behave!

M People

It has been 8 years since their first album "Northern Soul" was released and the world was introduced to the compelling and soulful voice of Heather Small. Mike Pickering, then a DJ at the famous Manchester club mecca, Hacienda, teamed up with Paul Heard and stole Heather from a band called Hot!house: he chose their name, which stands for Mike's People and the rest is elegant history! After four albums and a string of hit singles including "Moving on Up, One night in Heaven and Sight for Sore eyes," they came up with a finely packaged "Best of M people" last November. 1997 and 1998 served up a hectic return to touring but they still managed to squeeze in time to record 3 fresh tracks to feature on their "Best of" album. The funkiest of the 3 is included on Mix-up for your listening pleasure, so "Don't look any further, open your heart" and ENJOY!

Blondie

Before Garbage's Shirley Manson et al, came on the scene in the 90's - there was one woman in the 70's who had already stormed into the rock arena, previously guarded by men, and made it a place to be shared by the fairer sex. She was a sexy, young blonde called Debbie Harry. Her band, called Blondie, was made up of her, Chris Stein (her then boyfriend), Jimmy Destri and Clem Burke. They played together for over a decade and established themselves as one of the greatest pop-rock bands of the 70's and early 80's. 16 years after they split up, the Blonde gang are back with all band members intact! Their new album, released in February of this year, is called "No Exit," and just to show that they still have the same energy as before, they have been touring in Europe and are now headed for the US. All their music is timeless, classic Pop and their new single "Maria" fits very snugly into this category. Let's hope that they keep the hits coming well into the next Millennium!

N'Sync

Starting their trail of success in Hamburg, Germany, this US group have now smashed all chart records everywhere their self titled album has been released. James "Lance" Bass, Joshua "JC" Chassez, Joseph "Joey" Fatone Jr, Christopher "Chris" Kirkpatrick, and Justin Randall Timberlake are the talented guys who make up this quintet. Although their ages are not exactly "all together," ranging from 15 to 28, no-one can say that their voices and dance moves are not 100% "N'Sync!!" Produced by the dance pop guru, Denniz Pop, their album has now been in the Billboard charts for a whopping 64 weeks and is still in the top 20!! These guys are professional entertainers, with years of experience already under their young belts, we are sure that they will be around for a long time to come. Make sure you keep thinking of them, because they will be "Thinking of You!" (hyperlink to the track)

Another level

This talented UK foursome, signed to the Northwestside label, have proved themselves to be the hottest group to hit the R&B scene this year. Their first single sold more than 200,000 copies. Since then they have been busy thrilling millions of fans across Europe, touring with none other than Janet Jackson!! Freak me is their latest single and it went straight to number 1 in the UK charts. We hope that these lads can lift you to "Another Level"

Garbage

When Garbage appeared in 1995 who would have thought that they would become one of the most influential bands of the 90's with their power driven Pop rhythms, samples and infused harmonies! Their eponymous debut sold over 2 million copies which paved the way for the second and evn graeter work entitled "Version 2.0." The track on Dance.com.1 "I think I am paranoid" embodies all the spice and power that is the true sound of Garbage. See what you think!

Natalie Imbruglia

With 4 hit singles, including the megahit "Torn" all from her debut album "Left of the Middle": this Aussie starlet can certainly be proud of her music career so far! She has just finished her first tour in the UK which was broadcast to millions over the Internet and is in the process of recording her long anticipated second album. The track we chose for our compilation, "Smoke" was recorded whilst Natalie was hanging out in Nashville, USA. She liked it there but still says that Melbourne is her favourite city in the world!

Sweetbox

"The world's Number 1 border-breaking artist"...the single "Everything's gonna be alright" and their album have been released in more than 42 countries; producing a string of top ten successes almost everywhere it has been released!! The single is based on the classical masterpiece 'Air" by Johann Sebastien Bach and the group is supported by the German Film & Symphony Orchestra. This unique track seemlessly blends an unforgettable classical hook with the smoothe lyrics of the sexy and single diva, Tina Harris. You will be humming it for weeks to come!

4 the Cause

So much of the best music in America has started in a church...this story is certainly true for Shorty, Ms. Lady, BJ and J-Man. Coming together after meeting in their Chicago Church choir, they decided to combine their talents and form "4 the Cause." Their new single "Stand by me" (a cover of the great Ben E. King song) is rocketing up the charts in Europe and with your support we might just see them coming to Asia to visit sometime soon!

Modern Talking

With such worldwide hits as "You're my heart, you're my soul","Cheri, Cheri lady" and "Brother Louie" and more than 60 million records sold, the success of the duo, Modern Talking is unsurpassed by any other pop artists from Germany. It is no surpise to anyone that they are back with a 90's friendly injection. The album "Back for Good"contains 11 re-worked original tracks and 4 brand new ones. The track on Dance.com.1., "Brother Louie '98" is arguably their greatest, released way back in February 1986, they have given it a fresh '98 feel that is proving to be a real crowd pleaser on the dancefloor around the world!
