Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
What's new in FrameMaker 3.2?
A:
3.2 Release Notes
- Better font support. Frame loads fonts much faster at startup, which is noticeable if you have many (hundreds) of fonts installed; it's also better at classifying NEXTSTEP fonts into its own attribute system.
- Faster on color hardware. The previous version would on some machines allocate an onscreen window with alpha and a particular depth which was handled very slowly by the Window Server. This version keeps the alpha channel out of the onscreen windows.
- Continuous scrolling. This version of Frame now supports continuous scrolling--whereas the previous employed a much slower "drag and drop the scroll bar" approach.
- Many pathological cases fixed. A lot of obscure bugs were fixed, as well--Examples: lines over 1024 characters long; search-and-replace in some long documents; opening many book files at once which contain insets which have moved, etc.
- Byte-order dependencies removed. Frame runs on 680x0, x86 and PA-RISC.
- DSC-Conformant output. When you print, the resulting file is more nearly DSC-conformant. Font downloading works.
- Better support of new keyboards.
- You can paste EPS. You can now cleanly and safely paste EPS into a Frame doc.
- Pattern support. Patterns can be colored now. On some printers, they print correctly where they didn't before. (You still can't print colored patterns, though.)
