Q:
Suppose I do a window image shot with the Grab application and paste it into Diagram. I then want to annotate it with various lines that point to specific spots in the image. If I try to use rubberbanding lines, their endpoints always end up falling at the edge of the image rather than at the point that I release my mouse. How can I override this?
A:
The solution is to do the following (which is what we do for our documentation):
1. Bring in the image you wish to annotate.
2. Drag points from the palette to each place on the image where you wish to add a line.
3. Select the image and all of the points you have placed on top of the image (drag-selecting is the easiest way to do this).
4. Choose the Group command from the Arrange menu. This will group the points together with the image.
5. Create another endpoint (or a text box) for each point you have placed on the image. Use the line tool to create lines between the points on the image and the corresponding text boxes or outside points.
Now if you move or resize the image, the lines behave the way you want.
