You're Really Gonna Wear That?

"A collection of shots, potshots, hotshots and scattershots
...all about fashion and what the girls are wearing"

By Roxy du Monde

Last year I had the opportunity to attend my first California Dreamin' Convention in San Francisco. My standard M.O. at a TG convention is to sleep late, order room service and make sure I'm fresh for the evening events and especially for the late night action at the clubs. I've grown to accept the fact that I'm a night owl.

I also learned a bit about TG event fashion last year. Even if the event is being held in San Francisco, total fetish attire should be reserved until after dinner. I should have realized that Caesar Salad and power fishnet hobble skirts simply clash. It was my major fashion faux paux for the decade; however, I was quite popular once it got really dark.

This year I tried to dress a bit more in tune with the group, at least for dinner. Forget about late night Saturday, that doesn't count. California Dreamin' was held this year in Van Nuys at the AirTel Plaza Hotel. All will admit that last year's hotel was not the best, but the AirTel was well equipped for the group. The staff was very accommodating, mouth's wide open, but quite hospitable. Kudos to them and especially to the Cal Dreamin' staff for hosting a great event.

Serena Blending in as best I could, I watched what the other girls were wearing and I was impressed. The attendees sported some great casual outfits during the day, lotsa long slacks and comfortably stylish skirt and blouse combinations. Skirts were on the short side and there were great legs to be seen. And at the dinners I was wowed by how stylish everyone was. There were lots of little black dresses and a few little red ones. There were some marvelous gowns as well. Many of the gowns, from major designers mind you, were presented immaculately by some very beautiful Tgirls. Two of my good friends had on different dress styles made out of the same material. That was the first time I'd witnessed that phenomenon, but they were both exquisite. I saw beaded gowns and one shirred spaghetti strap dress with a sheer duster that was absolutely killer completed with rhinestones and fun strappy platform heels. Ok, that's what I wore one night, but it did look good. Designs ranged from Frederick's Spandex to Sequins Originals, and each wearer seemed to have a real comfort with their own style.

For you girls that attended, I give you a solid fashion 87, but you had a great beat and were easy to dance to. And jeepers do these girls dance. The club fashions at the Queen Mary and 7969 were everything you would expect and a bit more. Hot...hot...hot..

A Fabbie-ous Award

Fabbie

From time to time, I'll be dishing out a meaningless, yet soon to be coveted symbol of TG status: The Fabbie Award. And it will only be seen here at TG Forum. The Fabbie is for that one special T-girl that just has the total look together. It could be that bimbo in the fuzzy pink sweater or that swanky lady in Italian silk at the next table. But always look your best, because there could be a Fabbie out there with your name on it. Jeanne Weatherall

The very first Fabbie goes to a Texas girl who attended Cal Dreamin', Jeanne Weatherall. I first noticed Jeanne and her girl friend on Friday afternoon at Cal Dreamin'. They were wearing matching red suits, with red pumps. Both even had their hair done in an up do style that was very classy. They could not have looked any better. However, I saw them later that night in club wear and they actually did look better. Saturday night Jeanne wore a gown from Neiman Marcus that clinched her as the first winner of this wonderfully non-pretentious award. Keep it up Jeanne, you make us all look good!

Look good girls. I'm watching!

  • Roxy's Fashion Pooh of DuMonth

Designer Dice Kayek's Spring 99 Collection is just not up to normal standards. Last year, the Kayek lines had sex appeal with some very stylish cuts. This year I see a fashion cue from the baggy crowd and something that appears to be retro. I'm sure I was retro around at the time, just glad I can't retro remember it. Here it is http://www.firstview.com/designerlist/DiceKayek.html
